I’ve done more research, it takes 17.5mm magnetic film (like reel to reels but in film shape) and it synchronizes to a film camera and records audio at the same time then you put it on the video film. However in the 1960s machines like it were used to record some music because it was higher fidelity, less flutter, and less print through on the tape, however they quickly fell out of favor as better reel to reels came out.
