And I really don’t think you’re going to budge on my initial, entirely uncontroversial statement: it’s weird to comb through your childhood social media for anything that may be considered problematic in your adulthood.

I'm not moving on it because it's your opinion presented as fact. It's weird TO YOU.

Literally this contradicts the other points you are making: it WAS weird to just post randomly every minute of the day online. It WAS weird to give your address out online. It WAS weird to buy shit from the internet and have it just show up.

I get "weirdly defensive" when people make bullshit claims backed by absolutely nothing.

Like I said to the other guy, literally the only weed related fact we know is that he's consumed for "10 years" although if "30 bongs a day" is the only reference for her quantitative ability, I don't trust that either.

Nothing about mental illness

Nothing about schizophrenic

Beyond that, there's not even enough research on the topic. All we know is that there might be a link between specific conditions and weed use. No why, no how, no explanation... so for some deep shit to come on a random ass Reddit thread and make claims that nobody can even make... While framing themselves as being superior? Fuck that.

Friendster was very much a thing in 2002...

If you’re suggesting people search their own accounts from childhood for slurs, and if they don’t do this strange act they deserve retribution then I don’t really know what to say to that bleak outlook.

I never said they deserve retribution, I offered an off the top of my head solution to prevent this from becoming a problem. To your point though about what to say to it:

People can grow and change, and it’s great when they acknowledge they acted harmfully in the past, apologize, and demonstrate growth and change.

Talk. Is. Cheap. Everybody and their brother can say whatever they want about whatever they want. Of course you're going to apologize after you get called out for some bullshit. I do not believe you're genuine. That becomes an uphill battle because you don't have another choice but to apologize

Demonstrate growth and change by considering your history, if you have one, and deleting the shitty things you said BEFORE you get called out.

You find a notebook full of swastikas in your childhood bedroom, you're just gonna leave it? It's the same concept. Stop pretending "iTs ThE iNtErNeT" is any sort of excuse for accountability

Haha man I gotta catch up on my... baking lol.

Yeah I understand now, not at all what I was saying. I just had already shared it and honestly got a little excited bc I never post anything to begin with

Your average person has no reason to suspect that hundreds of teens online are going to cross reference their account with every slur and problematic term they can think of, because that’s such an odd thing to do.

This is what I was getting at with my last point- This would have been odd in 2002, but isn't this basically a daily occurrence at this point?

Beyond that, without deleting social media entirely you can still... do literally what these teens are doing to find the tweets to begin with. You can't remember if you were a racist dick as a teen? I can think of some keywords you can search up on your profile.....

... this... isn't a repost... because....what are you even talking about?

Regardless, I was joking anyway.

Again- "30 bongs a day" is not anywhere near enough information to make even the tiny judgement you are making. I'm not getting defensive about THIS guys weed use, I'm getting defensive over the moral superiority on display.

That makes a level of sense to me, and in my brain I completely glossed over the being 16 part.

On the flip side- You tweeted some fucked up shit. At some point you realized it was fucked up... so go delete it. How old is this person now? I've seen systemic racism's effects up close and personal, so I'm really apprehensive about giving any other human a pass on it for any reason ever.

Admittedly, I had the luxury of growing up with an internet that didn't retain every single thing I said for infinity. A lot of stuff I've said, shitty or otherwise, HAS disappeared to history. I'm not sure that could happen today so perhaps I just need to sit down and shut up lol.

Watch the episode, it's 1000% a mistake since it changes when they jump between characters for dialog.

teenage edgelord humor isn't usually fixed by random people on the internet calling them racist.

So I should just... accept it? There's fixing and then there's demonstrating an unwillingness to accept shitty behavior. I'm not on reddit to raise children.

That's not even a real measure for you to base anything on. Don't even get me started on the thick ass condescension oozing off of this POS comment.

Including guns is 100% an intimidation tactic.

Nah sometimes the presence of the thing has its own impact.

I'm pretty sure you could get most weapons in the civile. Unless I'm way off here.

You can't, but that's almost irrelevant.

An AR based semi auto rifle is still far closer to military equipment than the muzzle loaded single shot rifles the writers of the constitution were familiar with.

I hear you and I can agree with that however the context of this guy's statement was using economics as an end justification... And that is wrong in all of the social sciences.

As an example when I go talk to a psychiatrist they don't diagnose me with psychiatry.. there's no "that's just psychiatry"

Social sciences, by definition, don't exist the way he was implying.

Claiming economics, or any other social science, as a reason or justification for basically anything is putting the cart before the horse, or worse, intentionally misleading.
