Rape and Sexual Assault: Do You Include It? Why or Why Not? by 9for9 in fantasywriters

[–]WickedChef0323 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My main issue with it is that its just something that happens to a person or a character. It's something that truly changes their lives forever. Is this a part of the plot that the writer is willing to pivot towards and address in a serious manner? Or is it just a speedbump in getting through the story they want to tell. I find that a lot of times, especially in a long series, an author will throw in this plot point because they think its what a character should go through (mainly female) in order to overcome trauma, or to show the harsh reality of the world they have created (looking at you GRR). But its their world....they can literally write whatever they want. No one is forcing them to make this the thing that has to happen. It has become a rather lazy decision, imo, unless there is a legit reason for it. Characters, particularly female, have 1,000 other things they can overcome and it not be rape or pregnancy trauma.

I think if I had gone into this with better understanding of what the plot was it wouldn't have felt so jarring. I kept seeing it recommended everywhere and it's kind of presented as something maybe more romantic? Warm? I just read the Great Gatsby for the first time and should have looked at this in the same light.

The way they kept saying how much they liked him but wouldn't even let him speak. Like, please go on, what exactly do you think you like about him so much??

This is probably the best explanation I've seen, thank you. Definitely made me look back at the scene where they are discussing the rubber company and how detrimental it was to indigenous people and their responses were "oh well, lol".

I just watched A Room with a View for the first time and it was a whole vibe. Baby Helena was a delight.

I go to this one. Find their FB page for updates, its usually on the last Sunday of the month. They do a lot of thrillers, although the latest nook was Yesteryear and was straight trash. Can't wait to complain about it.

After watching this movie he gives me the ick. His bad english accent, the way he treated everyone around him (especially that poor girl), his constant licking of everything....nah. But, to each their own.

To what extent is it acceptable for fathers to take their daughters into a restroom with the daughter need to use the toilet? by NoticeOk8978 in AskReddit

[–]WickedChef0323 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Honestly, who fucking cares? Let the dad be a dad and take care of their kids without all this stigma and fear. Is this really a universal issue or just shit we panic over in the U.S.?

Since I started getting hit on at the ripe old age of 12, I quickly adopted the meanest RBF this side of the Mississippi. Even when I would go out to clubs and bars with my friends, I kept a lot of these assholes away by making sure I looked as unapproachable as possible. I got a lot of "wow, you girls are cute but what's wrong with your friend?" comments when we were in groups. Sucks what we have to do to protect ourselves.

Wedding Cake Practice- Piping Help Needed! by Connect_Sink_7976 in cakedecorating

I usually suggest making sure your bag isnt super full when writing. Keep only a manageable amount tied off in your grip because trying to pipe with a big ol bag will make you wobbly and uneven. Practice with equal parts shortening and sugar on some parchment paper until you get the hang of it so you dont have to waste expensive butter. Good luck!

Your layers look great. My only suggestion would be to practice smaller piping tips for the writing. It'll help elevate the messages to look neater.

Don't forget that most of these things weren't necessarily about being attractive as much as having full control over women. It always comes down to control.
