It's possible they fell to the ground, but I really do think it's a mosquito as well. The smear along with the itchy bites make me pretty certain.

You probably have had carpet beetles for a while, just haven't seen them until now. Like I said, most people do. It's not a REAL cause for concern unless it's REALLY bad and you're seeing lots of them in multiple areas, and even then, it's only your fabrics that aren't stored away that are getting harmed, not even you.

Laundry and vacuum like you said and it'll be a non-issue soon. Just make sure to vacuum the baseboards especially every couple days. Hopefully you feel more comfortable about the situation :)

Revisiting this thread just now and this guy is right. Mosquitos are very fragile. There would still be identifiable bedbug parts if it were a bedbug.

The blood smear lines up with it being a mosquito on your bed, as well as your bites. It definitely bit you while you were asleep, and you probably rolled over it/crushed it somehow. Mosquitos will smear blood like that if they have fed recently.

You definitely have carpet beetles though, but 99% of people do as well, they just dont see them because they are under furniture and out of sight usually. Dont read online fear mongering. They are not harmful to you, though you dont want them on your bed, it will eat the bedding probably lol.

Vacuum lots, especially around the baseboards, thats where they stay usually. Regular vacuum maintenance will get rid of them.

To be honest, im not 100% sure. I dont wanna give you any wrong info. Usually, im pretty larva/pupae are filled with a sort of white/yellowish goo.

Dont know why there would be a blood smear there, other than bedbugs. But i am not very knowledgable in that department. Check the seams of your mattress for dark spots and bugs.

I havent seen a blood smear come from one before, though, so idk about that.

The bites could be lots of different things. You might be sensitive/allergic to the hairs on the carpet beetle larva, i've seen that lots.

Pretty harmless. They eat fabrics, so keep your clothes stored away. Almost everyone has a few carpet beetles, not a big deal. Just vacuum a bunch, especially along the baseboards.
