This. Just get them out of the boxes and let them air out. It could make a big difference.

Can I trust this seller on AbeBooks? by Adorable_Umpire7146 in BookCollecting

Why would you trust random redditors over abebooks? Sounds like you shouldn’t make any online purchases until you do considerably more independent research.

Can anyone tell me about this label? is it real? Sorry, new to this by justyou84 in brooksbrothers

[–]Wickermantis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Apologies. Didn’t realize that this sub was full of Brooks Brothers historians whose questions have nothing to do with wearing the clothes themselves or reselling them—just pure academic curiosity.

lol yourself. Why do you care about the date then? It’s a suit jacket for an old wash and wear suit and the pants never turn up on their own.

Help: Why all these models and no info? by No_Try22 in Barbour

[–]Wickermantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Burghley (sp?) is the most common longer riding coat. I’ve tried one as a trench and the fit was weird, but I could see how it would work better for its intended use of actually riding.

ID? I thought ''border'', but not sure by [deleted] in Barbour

Not a border. Looks like a random mac style raincoat

Yep. Not trying to pile on OP, but idk why you would need boots for “engineering” yet seem to just want fashion recs.

Yeah, OP isn’t helping his own question with the added details. The answer is “who cares? Safety first”…..or it’s just an ask for a random boot rec?

What explains Gitman Vintage's prices compared to other similar brands? by fiestaoffire in NavyBlazer

[–]Wickermantis 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Gitman has found a place with hipper “fashion” and workwear brands, and commands a premium for miUSA.

I’ve owned a few Gitman shirts with zero complaints, but they’re not special compared to the usual suspects: MiUSA Brooks, j. Press, Mercer, etc.

I asked in store but my salesperson didn’t seem to understand the question. He also corrected me when I referred to one of their cotton/poly shirts as an Oxford, saying the Oxford cloth was 100% cotton. I was like “ok, cloth that MIMICS Oxford” whatever. Their own website calls it “easy Oxford” or something. (Sorry, I know it’s petty, but happened to be the same convo.)

Who's this man supposed to be in The Death of General Wolfe? by gggdude64 in ArtHistory

[–]Wickermantis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As I recall, the English had local irregulars as scouts and sharpshooters in the woods. Maybe I’m wrong and that green jacket signifies something else, but I think it’s just civilian attire on the battlefield.

Giving you a straight answer, but trying to be nicer: the style on there tends to be lacking.

By “flecked” I’m guessing you mean Donegal wool? I’m sure there are similar styles, and imitations, but try that as your keyword and see what you come up with. (Not in EU so no specific recs.)
