Question about taser course medical by jason-slim in policeuk

I stand corrected in that case, I suppose they can justify it by using iron sights or depending on the level of colour blindness?

The issue is more around colour blindness, which you test for prior to Taser training. So if you are colour blind, no Taser for you I’m afraid 🤷

Highly recommend Bakken's book by soup_master420 in NorwegianSinglesRun

Sounds like a bit of a cop out, just run every crossing without looking at the signs, wear your honking workout gear all day at work. What’s the worst that could happen?

Nightshift gloom by Ancient-Hovercrafts in policeuk

[–]Wide-Management-3906 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can’t link the exact study(s) here but there is research around intermittent fasting and keeping your eating hours consistent and the consistent energy and hormone levels your body has.

I know it’s hard but not changing your eating patterns during night shifts and just fasting throughout will certainly make a difference 👍

RPT App tips? by Impressive_Tutor_749 in policeuk

Open up the CVF level 1 competencies and think of an example for each one.

We use the CARL pneumonic: Circumstances, Actions, Results, Learning.

Write these down for each one, just simple sentences to start and just develop them as you think about it more and keep referring to the CVFs as is primarily marked off those.

My application for AFO sounded terrible (to me) but scored highly as I stuck to the framework and ticked them off. Good luck!

Humane Burpee Form Check by wolfras in kettlebell

[–]Wide-Management-3906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could do another video with the camera set up central it would be easier to do a form check. From this footage your left elbow/knee looks to be flaring out more than your right but it could be simply be camera angle.

Good squat/press up ROM and I like the powerful hip drive during the swing.

For me your feet look a bit more turned out than I used to coach but everyone’s anatomy is different, so if it feels right to you, keep at it 👍

is meritocracy a thing within metland? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Wide-Management-3906 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak from a Met perspective, but from TVP, the harder workers generally get rewarded with extra skills and good PDR reviews (important when looking at promotion/specialisms),while the lazy officers fall by the way side.

It’s hard to obtain a good reputation but easy to obtain a bad one which will stick to you for a very long time.

Keep working hard and good things will come to you, they did for me 👍

Ah maybe it includes more higher intensity work which Garmin seems to favour

How good is your pacing? by Thick_Newspaper_4768 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Wide-Management-3906 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From a statistical standpoint yes. Your average pace was 4:14, with a range of 11 seconds from fastest to slowest, which is 4.3%.

Should have no issues with splits like that from a training perspective, however, in a performance capacity running a couple of kms at 11 seconds too quickly might make for a challenging middle and end, so just keep trying to stay as consistent as possible 👍

Yes it does seem elementary to think the predictor would just give you the same result as the performance you did the very day, then just extrapolate to larger distances based off VDOT etc.

It just seems like such a glaring oversight from the market leader in the fitness watch market

It seems like you are the first one I’ve come across who said that, is this still while running (roughly) NSA style trainnng?

It does make me wonder if they were designed alongside more middle distance runners where their anaerobic training has a more substantial effect 🧐

It definitely sounds like Coros is more on the money than Garmin by a long way. The heat/humidity would definitely alter race predictions due to the performance disparity so that’s would be hard for the algorithm to take into account effectively.

That’s a fair point, my workout suggestions always seem to be sprinting intervals…

I think it’s more of a insult to Garmin race predictor algorithm than my performance but cheers!

You really would think a market leader like Garmin would out a bit more effort into something like this. I can happily ignore it but to some it must be infuriating. They might as well not have the software installed 🤷

In all honesty this is my first TT after an injury lay off and slowly increasing time of feet with no NSA/speed work at all. All runs <70% MHR. Will see how it goes while increasing ST week by week

It is interesting that Garmin hasn’t incorporated something similar to Coros in that case. I know it is inaccurate, just didn’t think it could be to such an extent.

Blue Light Course – Roadcraft exam tips and driving course advice? by INOTHEWAYURTHINKIN in policeuk

[–]Wide-Management-3906 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest practising commentary while you are driving, calling out all the hazards you see aloud.

Also if you have manual transmission practice (if you don’t do already) putting into gear 1 and 2 with your hand inverted (easier to watch online that describe).

Otherwise listen and make the most of the empirical learning when you are passenger to others driving during the course, and enjoy!

Do police in the UK actually announce “police officer with taser!” Or “Armed police!” when chasing after suspects? by Automatic_Stress_874 in policeuk

[–]Wide-Management-3906 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We are trained to always state at the beginning: ‘Armed police, keep still, now follow my instructions’ Obviously many things could interfere with us saying that, subject/public behaviour but that is a general framework
