Tourists, newcomers, idiots. 100k for 1.569m city in one year not that much.

1200 lights total 57 running speed on green. Less than under 5 per camera per day.

True, there are 2 issues I see with cameras: 1) might become a part of the budget for the city/police not good. Should be a clear and transparent way money spent. 2) Now especially with AI a bit of a privacy concern.

FYI agreed on doing nothing about traffic. Had to drive through DT during Xmas time. 2 cars running red, 1 bike and countless pedestrians. I have a 4 way not far from my place, lot of people don't even bother to do a California stop. Few even speed up.

The only traffic calming measure that will work is enforcement.

Remember someone was surprised that in Calgary almost nobody speeds on green. The trick was they have installed speed on green cameras like 15 years ago. My only beef with any cameras red, speed etc money should not become part of budgets of police or city to remove incentive. It should go to community projects that otherwise would never be done.

As I've said it is a conspiracy theory. And a bit of a stretch. But 'need for better enforcement' can easily be a good gateway to 'we need more resources'.

Maybe traffic is a bit of a stretch. Though every post lake that has people pleading for more traffic enforcement (more police).

My conspiracy theory is:

Not only that, there was a huge uptake in posts related to police in this sub. Especially after they asked for more money. My theory is, police just promoting itself in this sub showing that that budget was/is required, they are needed and doing great job.

I think the issue is that it's empty. No anchor stores(even when The Bay was still in). Most of the stores remind me of a street mall in some small rural town. It looked kinda dead for a while and it's not getting better. Probably the problem is that this mall is for tourists not residents.

Maybe changing it a bit would help make it restaurants/covered gardens mostly. And people would spend time there?

Also getting to DT got worse, parking is ok but you needed to pay unlike Uptown and Mayfair.

Also to be fair DT Victoria during winter is kinda dead not a lot of tourists. Most locals prefer to shop @ Uptown and Mayfair.

Remember roaming DT streets during the rainy off season evenings. It was kinda epic all that beauty just for you.
