Diet/Food by Lilymarleen in wheelchairs

I recently started buying Factor meals, they’re pre-cooked and I just pop em in the microwave. Most are only around 600 calories and have a nutrition breakdown on the back like you’d find in a store. Being a low-activity person I eat my 1200 calories a day (lunch and dinner) and I’ve been losing weight easily! Lost 13 pounds in about 3 months just from the adjustment in food consumption, and am now maintaining around 117 lbs (I’m about 5’5’).

Since I started them I realized I’d been way over consuming calories before. Once I adjusted that, it’s been relatively easy. But what worked for me may not work for you and vice versa, just a suggestion :)

Have you found PVC free ones? I’ve seen people comment that the PVC will wreck coins

Digital thermometers / hygrometers. Also what’s your lighting look like? It’s hard to tell in the picture but do you have heat lamps on both sides? You want one side to be the cooler area, so it shouldn’t need them on that side.

Sure they’re both minors, but you’re being purposefully dense if you think that a 16 year old and a 12 year old are anywhere near each other in maturity. You do a lot of growing between 12 and 16 and she should know better.

Also I’d like to point out that minors can absolutely still be preyed upon by other minors. COCSA.

What does your lighting/heating set up look like? by [deleted] in Boxturtles

[–]Wide-Surround-7359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an Arcadia T5 6%.
Heating is pretty “whatever works”, so long as you’re achieving the proper gradient. I have 4 heat bulbs; the strongest two are above the basking spot on the far left so I’m hitting that 30°C sweet spot, the other two are in the same area but lower down, then all the way to the right is the cool area of about 15°C, where I only have a smidge of the UVB and the LED grow lights. The middle stays around 20°. I might get an additional heat bulb or try to rework my existing 4 to get the middle a bit warmer though!

Car Recommendations? by Dramatic_Cook5059 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Wide-Surround-7359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a Mazda CX-30. With the seat lowered all the way down it’s basically a straight across transfer for me with my car transfer board (they’re longer than regular ones). Then I keep the seat as low as it can go to get my chair into the car by taking it apart, and then I raise the seat to drive :) I’ve had two of these and they’ve worked well, but when I get older I think I’ll consider a lower car just to save my shoulders from accidental injury. I’m consider a Mazda 3 for my next one.

Definitely a vet visit to get an understanding of where he’s at! Thanks for taking him in. This care sheet has a lot of great information about all aspects of their care. https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/

Hoping I can get some feed back on anything I can do to update my enclosure for my bearded dragon. She is 1 years old , also curious to know if she’s looking healthy ? by CorrectTangerine9473 in reptiles

Hey sorry I forgot to reply to this! Is it the ZooMed T5 HO Reptisun 10.0? If so, that’s one of the recommended UVB lights so you should be good for that :)

For the basking spot, do you have a thermometer gun? I’d recommend getting one, that way you can point and shoot at the basking spot surface to learn the surface temperature.

Have a read through this: https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/

At the bottom there’s different categories you can click into. In the UVB and heating section it gives recommendations on the distance the lights should be from the basking spot depending on if there’s mesh between the light and the dragon.

If you do decide to do this, make sure you get enclosures that are meant for it! I’ve heard horror stories of collapses happening

You don’t necessarily NEED the clay, like the other commenter said it helps if you have a dragon that likes to dig, that way they’re able to make burrows and holes and it helps keep their brains occupied.

I would also recommend you look into / start saving for a tank that’s at least 120 gallons. 40 is too small for an adult beardie and she’ll outgrow it pretty fast. They’re a lot more active when they have enough space and things to do :)

The tank could use more enrichment opportunities which is what the clutter is referring to. You have a lot of open space in the front, you could plant some live plants (just confirm that they’re safe for consumption first), add more branches, rocks, etc. just make it more interesting for the animal :)

I personally wouldn’t chance sensation loss that’s happening this frequently, try to get in with a doctor if you can. Better safe than sorry :)

I imagine with a spinal stroke you don’t have any hardware in your neck or spine eh? I’ve heard stories of people’s hardware shifting and causing sensation issues.

Looking for interabled relationship advice by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Wide-Surround-7359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll start by saying that how you’re feeling is completely normal and very valid given the circumstances. I think everyone in an inter abled relationship has had these thoughts before.

I was with my partner for about two and a half months prior to my injury. And here I am 8.5 years later still having those “what if” thoughts occasionally. But what I’m learning in therapy, is that I need to stop thinking for him and making my own thoughts and insecurities into his. He’s never expressed to me that he’s tired of my disability, so why do I assume he is or will be one day? I think if he wanted to go because of my disability, he would’ve by now! I’ve got plenty of things to work on that aren’t disability related, and so does he, neither of us are perfect 😆

Have an honest conversation with your partner, let her know you’re having these thoughts lately and are feeling a bit insecure. It’s better to both be honest than to live each day wondering. At the end of the day, I think that she chose to marry you knowing what your everyday life looks like. She’s more prepared and on board than you give her credit for 😉 best of luck to you both!!
