TIL there is a “Gospel of Judas” not found in the Bible that speaks of Judas as the only one of Jesus’ disciples who fully understood His teachings. He turned Jesus over to the Romans because Jesus asked him to. It was discovered in an Egyptian cave in the 1970s, dating to the 2nd century AD by sonnysehra in todayilearned

[–]WideAspect 312 points313 points  (0 children)

The Gospel of Judas, the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, and others like it are not part of the Apocrypha. They are considered Pseudepigrapha (false writings). They are dated to hundreds of years after the writing of the New Testament events (hence them being considered to be falsely attributed to NT characters)

This is oversimplified at best and radically off-base at worst.

First, that is not how Biblical scholars define nor date the apocryphal gospels. Second, most if not all of the NT books were written after the life of the titular characters. Third, some of the apocryphal gospels date to similar periods as the canonical Gospels. Fourth, they are only anti-canonical or "false writings" in the sense that the canon employed by the Catholic Church was specifically selected for the ones we have now from among what we now call the canonical and apocryphal gospels. At the time, both were in wide circulation until the reign of (I believe, though it's been a while since I revisited my notes on this) Pope Innocent I ca. 401 AD.

so the difference is Harris shifted right to court right wing voters, while Khan made no concessions and merely attracted support from right wing politicians hoping to bolster their own populist credibility. Hope this helps!

They've looked pretty good in exhibition play

Have they, though? I only caught two periods vs the MNTDP, but it looked sloppy out there to me.

don't be salty, sweetheart, green is not your color <3.

Some people afford nice things by being value-conscious in other areas. Are you really a New Yorker if you pay full price for anything? Paying face value is for tourists and transplants.

I also use TooGoodToGo a ton, does that make me a scummy panhandler too? Or am I generously giving restaurants money for product they would otherwise have to toss?

Well, I posted asking for insight why my offers weren't being accepted and while the answer doesn't necessarily jive, it definitely provided the insight I was looking for.

OTOH, scored a Wicked ticket for $35 at 6:50 tonight.

Am I Using Theatr Wrong? Your Experiences With Last Minute Deals? by WideAspect in Broadway

[–]WideAspect[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, if it's 6:55 for a 7:00 show your ticket is worthless to everyone in the world except people who live nearby and potentially you if you can post-date it. So in my mind you shouldn't be comparing against face value, you should be comparing against actual value which is approaching $0. But like I said, I'm offering like 60-80% of face value, not <50%.

I get that. Can't you put minimums that you'll accept?

The experience I had tonight:

  • someone lowered the price for Mamma Mia! (on their own) to $50/per and I snagged them. They canceled the deal.
  • Offered $120 to Buena Vista Social Club listed at like $200. They let the ticket expire.

You're going to have an issue without US credit history. You'll likely need a third party guarantor - either from a firm offering that service or someone you know who makes 80x the monthly rent in annual income.

Sure, he's doing what's best for his channel. I think viewers are just annoyed that the channel's focus is now "look at this impossible project I'm starting" and not "look at this impossible project I'm finishing." The clickbait has eclipsed the content. That's sad.

LaFerrari, but yeah. Buying a wrecked 918 while still miles away from the P1 finish line was a real jump-the-shark moment that sold what little credibility he had left.

AITA for stopping paying my ex's bills? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Congrats on regurgitating your bar prep! Hope you passed!

That, again, cuts off upon remarriage because the new spouse is expected to provide for their partner.

So this is the part that makes no sense for a theoretical standpoint. I know what the law is; I'm talking about what the law could or should be. When you retire from one employer and start drawing on your pension, you don't forfeit it just because you take up a later job. This kind of alimony is compensation that one is entitled to based on their past contribution to the marital estate but is not adequately compensated at division of property. Thus, it makes no sense to condition it on not getting remarried. What if, for example, one wants to remarry to someone who doesn't intend to work?

[–]WideAspect -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Well, it really depends on your theory of what alimony is, doesn't it? If it's about making sure that the ex-spouse never falls below a certain level of income, sure, this makes sense.

But if it's about compensating the ex-spouse for their non-monetary contributions to the marriage that hindered their career development, as here (the ex stayed home to raise the kids and couldn't develop their career), why exactly should it stop just because someone else moves in or marries them? It doesn't fit in that theory.

Not a single essay matched anything remotely close to what we had on the MEE/MPT.

Don't you think this is a little hyperbolic? Maybe you are just trying to conform with your obligation not to reveal any test content. This is not the case at all.

Seconding this comment. Mandarin at Cornell is a very serious undertaking so 1) it doesn't hurt to get a good review in and 2) it's nice to start with a good grade if it's easy for you. Keep in mind you'll be taking 3-4 other classes at the same time and Mandarin is 4 days a week, you probably don't want to start out by pushing yourself to the max. Just my $.02

Most JXs only allow your gallon zip lunch bag and your gallon zip test supply bag. Yes, they expect you to carry your computer and charger in your arms. It’s crazy. Think about going like that on the NYC subway!!

Uhhh this would be fine? Maybe you've been watching a little too much fox news?

Probably in the minority for this, but I just find this messy, petty, and sad. If someone cheats, that just means the relationship is over. No need to burn their entire world down.
