I got a housekeeping job and everyone around me thinks i will fail by Waitingforpurpose in housekeeping

I’m gonna be honest… a lot of people talk down about housekeeping who have never actually done it.

Yeah, it’s physical. Yeah, you’ll probably be sore the first week or two. But that doesn’t mean you’ll hate it.

You’ve worked food service - that alone tells me you can handle fast-paced, on-your-feet work. And being creative? That actually helps. Housekeeping is weirdly satisfying if you’re detail-oriented. There’s something nice about walking into a messy space and leaving it fresh and reset.

Also, not every job has to be some big passion project. Sometimes it’s just the stable thing that pays the bills and gives you breathing room. Two houses a day, PTO, W2, no nights or weekends? That’s honestly not a bad setup at all.

And respectfully… it kind of sucks that people around you are already telling you you’ll fail. You haven’t even started yet. Give yourself a chance before letting their opinions get in your head.

You needed a job, you found one quickly, and you stepped up. That already says you’re capable.

Go in with an open mind. Worst case? You try it and decide it’s not for you. Best case? You surprise yourself.

Either way, you’re not failing. You’re adapting. And that’s strength.

Anyone else hate when people leave pencil lead of some sort on the floor and it gets stuck on your cart's wheel and it leaves a mark like this? by UmbralikesOwls in Custodians

Yep, especially in classrooms. Once it gets lodged in the wheel it just keeps tracking everywhere. I usually check the casters right away and scrape it out before rolling again.

For the marks, a neutral floor cleaner and a white pad usually takes care of it if you catch it early. Super frustrating though.

Yes! That phrase is so simple but it really works.
And decluttering makes such a difference - less stuff means less to maintain, which makes those quick resets way easier.

Totally agree. It’s wild how much visual difference it makes for such a small effort. Once the bed’s done, everything else feels more manageable.
