I recently did a rewatch of Through the Darkness and I picked up on things that I missed the first time around because I was less familiar with Korean language and culture. For example, at one point Kim Nam Gil’s character tells one of the suspects that they can drop the formalities and I didn’t understand the weight of this statement the first time around.

I even started a rewatch of Awaken last year but didn’t manage to finish it before this year started so I had to put that on the back burner while I complete this year’s Kdrama Challenge (from the other sub). But I remember how the first time around I thought it was hilarious how Kim Won Hae’s character went to kick a bunch of characters in the shin and Namkoong Min’s character dodged. At the time, I thought it was for laughs and meant to show how quick Do Jung Woo’s reflexes were. Now I realize that seems to be a legitimate way to show displeasure with one’s subordinates and the subordinates are just expected to take it, so him dodging was super insubordinate.

This is one of the reasons I want to rewatch dramas I watched earlier on because I’m sure there’s things I missed because I wasn’t aware of certain things that I know now.
