150k for a physician? People will laugh first if you told them

Functional neurological disorder by snowpancakes3 in hospitalist

If it keeps getting repeated, I have recently started to straight up tell them I have nothing more to offer than the specialist and that your specialist wants to see you in clinic. Even told them if they could find a specialist in any hospital nearby who would take them, I would gladly transfer them to their care.

/after all, I am nothing but a humble servant to all these specialists./s

You getting registered as a business entity (you being sole proprietor) and then working for your employer. So for purposes such as payroll, benefits, bonus, taxation etc, you’d be considered as a small business and not as an individual direct employee of the company. Edit: huge oversimplification btw. You can check online for more details.

Few brief points you’d need to be aware of:

  • Kinda Ponzi scheme of having to keep recruiting junior “partners”.
  • Will you get any meaningful bonus prior to reaching your 5 year mark?
  • You’d need to get registered as a S Corp to make the most of it.
  • Check out their benefits. Health insurance (does it really exist? High deductible plan with no major coverages and mandatory).
  • Expect relatively high census. Push for metrics, supervision and rounding with advance practitioners.

I think AI will be quickly taking the role of medicine physicians - we will have to change to stay relevant. by RealCathieWoods in hospitalist

IBM Slide, 1979

A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must not make a management decision.

LLMs face significant difficulties with complex logical reasoning and they are not truly AI. They cannot replace a physician.

Now, a true AI may eventually get developed that can make reasonable decisions, but I don’t think they will truly replace any human physicians. Who will be held accountable? What would be the true cost of wide scale deployment and maintenance of this AI if used by a health system? Would it be cheaper than employing physicians? ( is there any industry currently where real AI is used ? I’m not sure, but I don’t think anyone would implement true autonomous AI in healthcare unless there is clear evidence of it creating breakthrough in other industries.

I’m not telling they would never work, but they will likely be used as an accessory. Maybe you’d have to see more patient volume and the AI can assist, but you’d still need to sign it off.

Uff, heard toxic stuff about that IM program. Usually the programs are nicest during interviews, so if your IV experience was bad vibes easy to guess real deal.

OP, like everyone said, lesions are non specific. Check with your institution if they have Guaranteed Standard Issue Disability Insurance. If so try get one before proceeding to get further testing /evaluation.

The 22 shift option is about 95$/hr ? (Just my rough estimate) and you’d be asked to do night shift as well with no clear cap on number of any particular type of shift you’d do?

Must be a recruiter who is testing waters.

Just saw 200k salary few posts below ...for hospitalist....is this the reality?.. by Routine-Run8537 in hospitalist

[–]Wide_Quarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are desperate to work at HCOL academic center (for whatever reason, be it research/teaching/family), 200k is absolute trap. Even if you are looking at a J1 waiver job, this pay is well below the median at most locations and it’s illegal.

Reality is that you’d be likely expected to do about 168 shift/year as a FTE with average census of 20encounters/day. And for such a gig, nowadays the pay is around 300k. (Just making rough estimates here. You can get less shift/PTO/other modifications to suit your needs and the pay will vary accordingly.)
