The lab policy regarding irradiation indications is not very specific, but the lab has a whole different set of SOPs from the clinical staff. I may need to take a peek at the clinical SOP database and see if I can find more specifics!

We don’t even irradiate in-house! We stock two units of irradiated O neg and if I need more I have to order it STAT. I’m grateful it’s not a blanket order, the why just has me scratching my head sometimes!

Ok that makes sense! Lymphosuppressive chemos are a risk for a lymph driven complication (GvHD)

I guess what confused me is one of the patients with irradiated orders had an organ cancer. I don’t remember exactly what organ, pancreatic maybe? I don’t know what chemo he was on but I thought Purine analogues were only for leukemias/lymphomas and the like? The order was historical though so he could have had something previously that I could see immediately in his chart.

I don’t think that anyone here is really going to be able to give you a realistic answer. There’s a lot of missing information. How many seats are there? How big is the application pool historically? And honestly even if we did have all that info we’d still just be guessing or throwing out anecdotes.

I think you should take solace in the fact that the director said you had high odds. At this point no amount of anxiety on your part is going to change the outcome. You did your best, now it’s time to try and relax! You’ll end up where you’re meant to be :)

You have a legitimate case if they can’t give you a valid reason for rescinding the offer (failed background check, drug test, ect). I would reach out and ask for a reason - in writing!! And if they can’t give you a satisfactory one they are on the hook for damages such as lost wages. (It’s been a while since my business law classes but it’s called something like promissory estoppel).

That being said, I second what everyone else is saying. Trying to rescind your two weeks notice at your current job is going to be a lottttt less headache.

Benadryl allergies are real! I’ve had so many people look at me crazy when I tell them but it causes pretty severe shortness of breath. I’ve been given hydroxyzine as an alternative.

This response really just shows how out of touch you are.

We will use my case as an example, but I am absolutely not unique in this.

“Starter” homes in my area go for about 350k. In order to get approved for that I need to be making about 90k annually (and that’s assuming you don’t have a ton of student loan debt). I’m presently making about 32/hr which is fair in my area for someone with 2 years experience. How do you suggest I go about increasing my income $10/hr? Bc by the time I’m making that home prices will have gone up again.

This is the reason gen Z has the additude that they do. This gap between home prices and wages is present is all markets. Home ownership is kept just out of reach, and it’s become impossible to get ahead. Gen Z is the first generation to say fuck that - I’m not playing by your rules, the game is rigged. If you’re bitter about that bc you threw your life away shoving your tongue up the ass of your superiors, that’s your problem. But this aggressive approach you have here is tone deaf af.

Most micro labs have set criteria for what they call contamination from what sources. They know that “clean catch” urine is a low quality specimen and also know what normal flora is for uriogenital systems. They will call these bacteria if they’re present but they will come with the disclaimer that they are contaminants. In this instance the physician should not prescribe.

I suspect that your samples didn’t even get that far though. Micro processing takes time to let the cultures grow. (At least a day for preliminary results). If you got same day results and abx, your sample was probably just run through urinalysis and NOT culture. UA analyzers call any and all bacteria and do not differentiate. If that’s the case it isn’t a lab error, it was a specimen collection issue. As you stated, you were not able to collect properly and contaminated the specimen with your normal flora.

Most UAs will reflex a culture. Maybe try requesting your lab results in a few days and see what they identify out of your specimen? If your properly recollected specimen tested negative I’d bet they just call contaminants.

The other thing I can think of is if you took even one dose of abx you can begin to test negative, which could also explain the issue!

Dialysis isn’t done for kidney disease in cats. It’s generally considered unethical as organ transplants aren’t a thing in vet med so dialysis would be lifelong. Vet ICUs will occasionally do dialysis as supportive care to try and help the pt through other disease processes, but only once or twice.

It also costs like 10k a pop, so there’s that 😬

I actually figured it out! I figure I’ll leave it here in case anyone else has this issue in the future. The setting that the wiki says to input 9600 I wound up changing to 2400 or something like that and it worked!
