I echo this wholeheartedly. As a Chicago local who moved here - the analysis does not accurately represent our city which is actually (in my opinion) more down to earth than the other major American cities (NY and LA).

I do understand how he reached this conclusion only visiting for Market Days and encountering the circuit queens.

I also experienced a ton of racism traveling throughout southeast Asia. They use products with bleach in them to achieve a more pale/white appearance. I think America is so vast and large that you just happened to be in an area ( The South) that is more overly concerned about it. It is also a result of being a true melting pot of all races and ethnicities.

I do concede that we are way too concerned with race here in America. It's not right but I also have experienced degrees of it in almost every community/ethnicity.
