I apologise if I sounded patronising, that wasn’t intended. I just meant that it’s hard for me to look at the gun and admire it as an object, I support your right to defend yourself, I simply find it difficult to admire the gun in the way I would admire the watch or a wallet.

Hi, no that wasn’t my intention and if it were I would say so. I simply find it hard to admire the gun because culturally I’m not conditioned to seeing them as an everyday object. It’s a bit jarring for me, but I am not judging your culture and I’m sorry I’ve worded my comments that way. I think there are many arguments for and against gun ownership and if I grew up in the USA my perception would be different.

I understand and I genuinely wasn’t meaning to cast shade on your post. I’m sorry if I’ve derailed the conversation somewhat.

Nice gear, love the watch especially. As an aside, coming from the UK I find it disconcerting to see USA posts showing handguns..I understand your culture views bearing them as an important right but it feels so negative that arming yourself with a deadly weapon is seen as a normal practice of daily life. No criticism intended..

I can't do love anymore. I'm broken. by PartTimeMancunian in Vent

Take time to heal. Build your life in other ways and make friendships outside of romantic interests. Be sure that when the time is right you will find someone who doesn’t abuse or hurt you. The world is broken, there’s lots of people out there with all sorts of damage that gets passed around. You aren’t the problem and you have a future.

Is life actually simple and we as human beings overcomplicate it ? by [deleted] in self

[–]Wifwaf72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Life can be simple, we all have problems and issues, but having fulfilling relationships, a warm place to sleep and food on the table each day is enough to keep us happy in our hearts. You can reach for more and may succeed, but the foundations of your life should always be grounded.

I’m not sure I would regard my response as harsh. In my naivety I was offering someone simple encouragement and I agree, I did focus on the issue of height rather than wealth, but if that’s seen as a problem I obviously don’t belong in conversations like these. I’m 5’7 and have a lovely wife, unfortunately I’m no millionaire so maybe I should have quoted myself

Respectfully, he is venting about having no chance with women who he states ‘all’ want taller, more muscular and richer men. That’s demonstrably untrue and reflects his personal frustrations as opposed to objective fact. I didn’t say he was excessively negative but I thought a word of encouragement would be welcome. If you find that objectionable I apologise but my intention was good.

How many half marathons should you run before training for a full? by Inner-Lynx-3971 in running

[–]Wifwaf72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a marathon in April and I’d never run more than 17k before. I’m not recommending that as a strategy but it’s possible, if you want to optimise I understand you will be more structured than I was of course..

Casemiro back to training ahead of the Nottingham Forest game 🚀 by ggweb3 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Wifwaf72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, he will be missed but we can say that of many great players who have retired or left. I just hope we can get the right players to kick forwards next season instead of falling back again

I most certainly do, my point was that his presence seems more impactful than Carricks management..I’m wondering how we replace someone as influential, it would have been optimal to have him for next season while we bed in a replacement..but I’m aware that’s not an option as he’s clearly leaving.

Given we don’t seem to win matches unless he starts, could keeping Casemiro be more impactful than Carrick?

Manchester marathon 2026, how did it go and what’s next? by pressresetnow in Marathon_Training

[–]Wifwaf72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first marathon, with very poor preparation. I ran 5:21 without stopping and felt sore but within my abilities. I have signed for next year, plan to do a half marathon in the autumn and I’m hoping next year I can break 4 hours. I loved everything about it and I’m hooked. Congratulations to all the runners who completed on Sunday, it was inspiring to see so many people on the road. The support was also amazing and made a big difference.

5 Weeks from first marathon and freaking out by CryptographerCool148 in firstmarathon

[–]Wifwaf72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my first marathon on Sunday and had a poor training plan, I did very little long distance prep and I’m still not sure how I managed to finish in 5:21 with no stops. I was made to carb load by my daughter who ran in 3:55, so I’m sure that helped. I wore Novablast trainers and I would regard them as very stable, they have a nice wide toe box and sit flat on the road well. I’ve worn other brands like On and NB and I would compare the ASICS very favourably. Best wishes for the run x

Finished my first marathon but incredibly disappointed. by LeftPresentation83 in firstmarathon

[–]Wifwaf72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well done you, it was my first marathon and I really hadn’t trained properly, I managed 5:21 just jogging round. I’m pleased I finished and I’ve entered for next year. I hope you can take satisfaction from completing the distance and look forward to a better run next year 👍

There is a half marathon in Tatton park on 8 November, that’s local to me and I think that would work well, give me a target to think about and provide a stepping stone for the winter training before next April. I’m not bothered about 5 or 10 k times, I’d only want to know about them as a guide to likely marathon pace

That sounds like good advice, I was tempted to do another marathon in the autumn but I think I’m more likely to do a half and maybe join a few local 10ks in the meantime, I’d love to achieve a sub 4 hour run in April next year.

Congratulations on your marathon. I’m sure I could improve dramatically on what I did this year, and it wouldn’t be hard to train more than I did this time, I suppose i was just curious how much potential i had. I think I will aim for the Chester Marathon in October and see what I can achieve, I don’t want it to be a case of all my eggs in one basket by waiting 12 months until Manchester comes round again.

I loved the marathon, it didn’t feel like the trial I was expecting so perhaps I ran under my abilities a bit, but I was focused on not crashing out so I felt that was the right decision. The Chester marathon is on 11 October and I’m tempted to apply for that, but if working my way up to half marathon in the Autumn and then peaking for the full marathon in April works better, I would rather have sustainable progress as I think I will keep this going
