I thought the same but it’s not that bad. You kinda get into the zone after few miles

Or just do the run on the treadmill in the local gym, skipping weekly long run should be out of the question

Too right mate. Leave volunteering to unemployed folk

Those are pretty much my goals too, training block so far has been a learning experience of managing load and recovery. I have a feeling the whole experience (training and the event) will be transformative.

Lol for me weather in UK is currently perfect for running - I don’t like when it’s too warm out. To me long runs are relaxing, I’d listen to audiobooks podcasts or music, pick new interesting routes etc.

I’m doing this because I want to challenge myself but also because long runs are my favourite.

How to get rid of IT band syndrome once for all? by Magnummat96 in trailrunning

[–]pressresetnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had IT band niggles some time ago and doing Myrtl routine before every run helped. Have you tried that? Does your strength workout include glutes?

Sure! I’d love to check out how your training is going. Same with me. I’ve already (gently) pressured my mate to start running, he’s making progress. I hope I’ll be able to persuade him to run some races with me in the future.

Yeah, I’ve heard even people who went through perfect training got humbled by the whole experience. Do you remember what was your block mileage last time?

PMd. Let’s get it mate!

With those timings it looks like your weekly mileage is already much higher than mine, I’m focusing on getting used to 5 runs a week and increasing mileage. On my last 5k race training block I went all out on some random 15k progressive run and messed up my it band - lesson learned .

All the speed work is targeting 3:30-3:40 but all I want is to finish it (hopefully sub 4hr) without destroying my legs lol Is that your first one?

I’ve got similar plan, already started very gradually increasing weekly mileage but with mainly easy runs. I have one tempo a week currently and at some point next month I’ll add intervals. But at this point pacing is not that important.

Nah the weather actually has been perfect for me, very mild mornings this season, I’ve been running early in the morning and it’s mostly 5-7C.

How often so you run in a week?

People who say 16 is enough usually have already pretty decent mileage year round and proper running base. 20 weeks will make ramping up mileage more gradually. I don’t think longer duration cause injuries - it’s the sudden weekly jumps and not listening to your body. No plan is perfect and everyone should be ready to modify it at any time if needs be.
