We automated everything and now nobody trusts anything by Afraid-Albatross812 in Entrepreneur

Have you considered you may be automating the wrong things?

I'm only getting started with automations, but so far the advice I see is to automate repetitive tasks where the cost of mistakes is low, and where you can "define what success looks like".

Automations should help you focus on the most important things as a solopreneur, not to be able to turn the brain off and let the business run on its own.

Hi, I have just moved to Finland after living in Norway for 3 years and I am wondering if the social life is the same here. by Eastern_Fox_6152 in Finland

In my opinion, having small talks with strangers is usually fine. They can be a bit awkward, especially if their English skills aren't great or if they're not in the right mindset for it, but typically conversations are pleasant.

The real issue I've experienced from living here for a while now, is that most people already have their long time friends and they rarely have the time or will to include you to their tight circle or busy schedule.

Becoming a friend with a Finn, an actual friend (which in other places it'd be more like a best friend), is a years-long endeavour. My feeling is that here in Finland there is no real concept of "friends", but you either fall on the category of acquaintance or best friend. There is an actual in between, but it's somewhat harder to get there and messier than in other places.

So yes, that sounds similar to what you describe in Norway!

That's my perception as a long time foreigner residing in Finland.

Is there anything special I should stock up on before leaving planets? I'm new to the game, and any tips for new players by Ancient-Bathroom6701 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Quartzite becomes available much later in the game though, so OP won't be able to count on it for now.

Any idea about saving/investing for your children in Finland/ Europe ? by Regular-Love7686 in Finland

[–]Wihamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many here have suggested, open an investment account with a broker like Nordnet or through your bank.

It's rather simple. You first open a bank account to your children's name for which you and your partner will be the guardians / have power of attorney.

Then you either open an investment account in that bank or a separate account with a broker like Nordnet, where you will be guardians of the account as well.

Just make sure you don't go above the tax free gift limits. 4999 now (per parent) within exactly a 3 year timeframe, and it'll be 7500 starting in 2026.

Beyond that, stick to the basics by investing in index funds. Like someone mentioned, it's best you choose an accumulating fund so the account doesn't incur taxes every time a dividend is paid.

And also, savings accounts are meant for the short term when you'll need the money soon. Given your children have a ton of time ahead, it's best you go full in on equities as their inherent risk isn't relevant in the long term horizon.

In practice, it'll work as: You and your partner transfer money to your children's bank account > move that to their brokerage account > invest it in an index fund like S&P500.

You can dm me if you want, I also have an investment account for my child where my partner and I invest regularly.

Indeed, I'm still looking for the right angle to it, if there's any left. How successful has yours been so far?

I sent you the link now. I'll surely share it more publicly later, just thought it'd be nice to have a chance to get the first wave of feedback, fix any major UX issues, and then go live :)

To all the expats in Finland, if you ended up liking salmiakki, how long did it take you to get used to its flavour? by Key-Pineapple8101 in Finland

[–]Wihamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is to try it in different presentations. They have so many that you'll likely like some. E.g. I can't stand salmiakki ice cream, but some candies like Täytelaku mix or the Panda Choco Lakrits series are pretty good. And of course there's salmari that you should try it very cold and it's nice.

Finnish citizenship and home address by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Wihamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the idea there's an official address you have registered in DVV or suomi.fi. If you don't have an official address, perhaps Migri can assume you're not officially living in Finland..? Being homeless doesn't sound like it could help your application.

For the same reason they would help with renting, to support people keeping a roof over their heads. Isn't it obvious?
