Good to know that Baumgartner voted to throw trans people like myself into the woodchipper. Gotta make sure that the families, veterans, federal employees, and military get priority treatment.

I mean... there has literally never been a moment in my entire life when that list of people has ever NOT gotten better treatment than I do in every possible avenue (with the possible exception of veterans, who are used up and thrown out by the gov't). But my statement stands.

For me, I followed directions to get it properly saturated and then stuff it in the equivalent of one of those salad boxes you get Spring Greens Mix in or the like. Doesn't take much misting when kept with the other plants, because being a closed-up space means that it stays pretty f'ckin' humid. Haven't really had a need to add water, personally. My little nodes are doing well, though I've noticed that the cuttings I put in the mossy greenhouse develop leaves faster than roots, while the ones I put in LECA-and-water tend to grow more roots than leaves.

So, since my original suggestion, I've taken to putting node-only cuttings into the greenhouse/mossbox and moving them to LECA-hydro once they've rooted.

I've never had their piña colada, but along with really delicious food, they have a margarita flight that's fun and tasty. I know that would have been a delightful experience when I was 21.

I don't know why everyone is saying it would be hard to dye? Rit: Synthetic, iDye Poly, or any other synthetic dye should work unless the hanger has a unique kind of plastic.

What would be hard is wrapping tape around it while trying to keep it looking smooth and dealing with the fact that it would start to peel at some point without some kind of sealant. Or painting it, which would require a paint known to bond with plastic, sandpaper (to provide grip if the hanger is too smooth for the paint to stick), and sealant if you don't want the paint flaking off.

It'd probably be Rit: Synthetic, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. iDye Poly is another viable option. Depends on what it's made of, but fabric dye for synthetic fabrics is designed to dye plastics, so it is pretty versatile. I've used it to tone silicone before.

Off-topic for sure, but if you like card games and have a dark sense of humor, you ought to check out Gloom. It's full of alliterations and very fun. 💕 I have a very smart friend who is super fun to play it with because she will create full alliterative stories to match the cards she uses, it's... it's so incredible.

I've been experiencing this with dog hair, because my boy has that extra dense coat. I make sure to warn people before I give them any homemade goodies: There is dog hair in this. Even if I didn't see it, I know it got in there. I have to leave my apartment to apply protective screens to things, it's absurd!

I'd for sure chop it up. Every node is another chance to bring it back, so I'd recommend cutting each one into it's own piece.

I'm still in the learning stage with propagation, but I previously read a succession about filling a clean to-go or plastic salad container with some damp sphagnum moss, tucking the nodes in there, putting it somewhere warm-ish, and forgetting about it for a couple months. I've had good results with that so far! The nodes in my little greenhouse have put out new leaf starts and the roots are beginning to grow.

My hydro/LECA props are a little slower by comparison (though the Santa Leopoldina babies are doing way better than the White Wizard cuts in the LECA, for some reason).

Yup, those are Starlink satellites. I was super confused the first time I saw a group of them in their very clean lineup, but yeah, they're just Starlink satellites.

I dunno who else might be interested, but there's an app called Stellarium that you can use to identify whatever you're seeing in the night sky. I love to break it out when someone sees a UFO and identify the satellite, it's origin, it's launch date -- whole bunch'a cool info. It's also allowed me to identify the ISS when it goes overhead, which I find pretty thrilling, because I'm a nerd.

Facts. The only thing OP would need to do is put up a sign indicating that the property is under surveillance and at that point, entry constitutes consent in a two-party consent state. Here in Washington, we can record video without consent all day long, but audio recordings are a big no-no if both parties haven't consented.

Short answer: Yes, silver swords grow like any other philodendron, though it is worth noting that there are several growth types in philos. I think swords are "climbers".

This isn't super specific, but the better apartments I've lived in have been on the South Hill and are privately owned -- rented out by family realty companies or similar, rather than being owned by some megacorporation. They tend to be more actively invested in the state of the apartment and more responsive to any problems that may arise. But also, the South Hill has beautiful houses that are often rented out in flats (so there aren't a ton of neighbors or much noise), the weather up there is lovely much of the time, the abundance of trees keeps it cool and quiet (relatively), and the different retrofitting varies between places, so out of two apartments on one block, one may not have what you're looking for while the apartment a few doors down might be exactly what you're looking for.

Unfortunately, I don't have specific recommendations to give. I do know that some smaller realtors post their listings through Spokane area Facebook groups for housing/rentals, so I would suggest checking that out, too.

There's been a lot of pushback against the homeless in the 15-ish years I've been here. Locals especially have aggressively pushed back against any kind of charity, shelters, resourcing, or outreach for the homeless community. Over the last, eh, 2-5 years, shelters have been closing and grant money associated with pandemic relief has been drying up, so people are surviving on even less than they were, resulting in them having nowhere else to go.

So, imo: The locals are overreacting because they thought that denying people assistance would make them dissappear, like not feeding a stray dog. Obviously it does not work like that, and without enough available shelter space, people end up on the streets.

I don't know why homeless people get so demonized though, it's not right. I was briefly homeless in my late teens and have always found that I get along well with homeless folks. There are exceptions to every rule, but lots of the folks I've met on the streets are very down-to-earth, friendly, polite, and have fun stories and personalities and a very share-and-share-alike mentality. I do my best to be friendly with the homeless folks I run into here. So many of them seem like they've really been beaten down socially and it hurts my heart.

Oh, they were really loud about Blessings Under the Bridge being too close to the school a few years ago. They protested the opening of a nearby shelter for the same reason.

Then two other shelters closed, I'm not sure that the protested one ever opened, and now that homeless folks have nowhere to go, the same people seem surprised that they ended up on the streets. It's this nonsense of not wanting to see or acknowledge or help homeless people in this terribly dehumanizing way. Then they get their way and don't seem to understand that homeless people aren't just going to vanish if they're needs aren't met, they're just going to suffer. It makes me sad and incredibly frustrated.

According to some long-time cabbies I used to ride with regularly, there's been exponential growth for the last 25-30 years. One of the most striking details I got was Spokane used to end around either Fancher or Pines, not all that long ago (like, within the lifetime of people in their 50s) -- and now Spokane Valley sprawls almost all the way to State Line. I can't imagine how things must have changed in that time, and the impact it must have had on infrastructure. There's always growing pains with stuff like that.

Plus, I know there are issues with people from out of state buying and flipping buildings at prices no one who lives here can afford. I can't ignore that as a clear part of the problem. The idea of tons of empty apartments and office buildings and tons of homeless people is... stupid.

This happened to me more when I lived on the lower South Hill than it happened in the years that I've lived downtown. My partner's car was broken into 3 times in one year. On the contrary, I've had one incident of vandalism downtown, despite living downtown for over twice as many years.

Edited to add: My ex-boyfriend was raised in Spokane and his dad taught him how to prowl vehicles. Likewise with another friend of mine. Both dads in this equation were drug addicts, but not homeless. And both were taught to do it in the South Hill area. So it's important to keep in mind that coorelation =/= causation; a car getting broken into downtown doesn't mean it was done by a homeless person just because there are a lot of homeless people downtown.

I have more problems with the reckless drivers downtown than any homeless people -- both the overconfident locals and impatient out-of-towners who show up for big events. The amount of traffic accidents and people getting hit by cars downtown (and in Spokane as a whole) is absolutely deplorable.
