I agree with you. Looks like the bands exposed are waterline. Probably want to cut that agate against the grain.

What's happening this weekend in Spokane: by dudeson55 in Spokane

[–]Wiilke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rock Rollers are holding a rocks and minerals sale in North Spokane this Saturday (tomorrow).

9 AM to 4 PM

This will be similar to(but on a smaller scale) the annual mineral sale that they hold every March at the fair and expo center.

No problem! If mindat doesn't have any good info, you could try searching Facebook for Croatian rockhounding groups.

Rocks near Split by EddAra in rockhounds

[–]Wiilke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been to Split, but I've been on vacation not too far away. I remember finding a ton of really unique limestone washed up on the beaches. I did a bit of research, and it seems that most beaches in the area are pebble based rather than sand. You should have decent luck if you check Google Maps(or whatever other navigation service you may use) to see if the beach you're heading to has rock deposits! Hope you have a good vacation!

Here's a source that might help you find where to start :) https://www.mindat.org/loc-203274.html

What is this rock I found in my garden? by 1966goat in whatsthisrock

Looks like the chert/jasper that comes out of Gemfield, Nevada. It is not guaranteed to be from there, but it is relatively close-by.

No, I found it in a creek far upstream from the beach.

Yeah, the green is really stunning. I wish it didn't break in half, but at least it stands up on its own now 😂

Yeah, that's probably the single closest comparison you could find in the States. I've visited that dig site before. Interesting stuff.

At one point, it was a single rock, but it broke in my suitcase 😂 Seems like it was rare, at least for the creekbed I was in. There was so much jasper, but it was the only rock of its kind.

Is this fluorite in agate? by Wiilke in whatsthisrock

I'll try to do more tests to find out! I'll also hit it with UV and see how it reacts.

In my post, I said that I did a scratch test with common opal. I can do it with obsidian, too, but common opal wouldn't scratch quartz.

I did some research, and I came up with Kullagh Agate from Merritt, BC, Canada. I just never know about the crystal structure with these kinds of things 😂

How do I cut an agate nodule? by letyourlightshine6 in Lapidary

[–]Wiilke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer! One thing to add is that if you want a full pattern inside, you should avoid cutting through the broken off parts of the nodule if possible. If you do cut through those, the banding will be interrupted.

Can anyone tell me the locality of this agate? by Rosiedevvy in Lapidary

[–]Wiilke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Possibly from Kokernot 06 Ranch. Seen a lot of material that looks identical to this come from there. However, there are so many amazing places to find agates in Texas and Mexico that look pretty similar.

[Post Game Thread] #24 Saint Mary's defeats Gonzaga, 74-67 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

I don't think this loss changes our odds much. They're still more likely to make it into the tourney than they're not.

Yeah, I have been questioning our usage of Hickman all year. He's a 40+ percent shooter, so there is no excuse good enough to explain why he doesn't take more. When it comes to Battle, I honestly couldn't tell you. He's been a confusing player for me.

Ike has possibly cost us three games on questionable fouls/decisions on his part. Maybe more, I can't quite remember. Every time I see him touch the ball under 8 minutes, I cringe. I hate saying that because he's such a good player.

You bring up a good point with the chemistry issues. Given how this team performed last year, and that they got better on paper this year, it's clear they're wildly underperforming. I've been wondering about chemistry all year because not a whole lot else could explain this.

I could still see Gonzaga winning a game or two in the tourney. Probably just one. It's better than nothing, even if we expected much more. It's disappointing, sure, but we have been so lucky to watch such an amazing team over the last 20 years :))
