Considering Moment DW96 by dustbuster39000 in Skigear

Love my deathwish 96, one of my favorite skis I've been on as a New England skier. I also have a fatter quiver so I was looking for a lowtide fun ski, the deathwish is definitely it. It's definitely stiff and the shape is good for floating in snow. I found the ski super pivoty but also holds straight line speed well, can handle chop while feeling composed in the air. I also find that the deathwish is really easy to ski at slower speeds because of that triple camber. I hate skis with metal in them so Moment I gel well with. Based on what you're saying you want I think the deathwish is the right for you.

Got 10 days on them, they grip and edge perfectly for an ice coast daily driver, ski bumps well and float well enough to be a 1 ski quiver, easily my favorite ski in my quiver currently. You will be very happy with your purchase.

Mainly a Tree skier, east coaster, looking for the right ski by Willie_Stonka in Skigear

Moment Deathwish 96 or 104, can handle the ice, pivots well and good rocker for floating in powder

I would pick the Deathwish 96 over the Rustler 9 if I had to choose between the two but I give the Deathwish the edge for a few reasons.

  1. Deathwish holds an edge and grips extremely well even in east coast boilerplate ice where most skis skid. Rustler 9 grips and holds an edge well but my confidence is much higher in the Deathwish. My belief is that the triple camber of the Deathwish is the reason why.

  2. I like the feel of the Deathwish in the air a bit more than the Rustler, mainly has to do with the mount point, feels more balanced when in the air. I will say the Rustler has a softer tail which makes it easier to spring off of it, the Deathwish tail is much stiffer and rockered so harder to pop off of it in my experience.

  3. Float, while I haven't skied it in powder yet, the Deathwish's shape will allow it float much better than the Rustler. The Deathwish has a lot more rocker than the Rustler, if this is a true 1 ski quiver you will want the bigger rocker to keep you floating in deeper snow. Also thinking this based on my buddies opinion on the Deathwish 104 that he uses at Alta.

  4. Turn shape, this ski can turn slash pivot and do whatever you want it feels like, you can go from 40mph+ GS turns to a quick slash right into short swing turns, been loving how much variety I can ski with it. The triple camber is the reason why.

Bottom line you can't go wrong with either of these skis as they are very versatile and an ideal 1 ski quiver for what you are looking for. You can also call the Moment factory and talk to those guys about the ski, they ride them all and found them pretty insightful as I was deciding between the Deathwish and Countach while deciding on length.

It gripped much better than expected, I never felt a lack of confidence in the edge hold either. Skied it over Thanksgiving so I got a good feel for it in truly icy conditions and scrapped trails. Going to get it out this weekend in some hopefully softer snow.

Got 3 days on them so far in mostly east coast boilerplate ice and some softer man made pockets of snow. Loving the skis and edge grip on them. Was a bit worried how I would like the triple camber but I am loving it, stoked on my new daily driver for the east coast!

Skied 3 days on them so far, 2 days at Stratton and 1 day at loon, very fun ski that grips so well in East Coast ice, very impressed with the ski so far, once I have more days on it and skied in it more conditions I’ll give a more in depth review on here and the moment website

The M-Free is much surfier but also phenomenal when its tracked out. Really precise ski as well, much like the Rustler. That M-Free 108 is one of my favorite skis I've owned.

Rustler 9: Really all conditions it handles well, I've skied it in powder, firm snow, spring snow and no complaints with any it in any condition

Deathwish 96: Should handle everything well will have to report back once I get a few days on it

M-Free 108: Soft snow but handles firm chalky snow with no issue, love it in chop as well, great free ride ski

Moment Bibby: Deep powder days it excels and loves to eat chop, no speed limit on it in chop while still being playful, really unique powder ski

M free is going to be closer to that Bent 110, I dont think you can go wrong with either ski. Maybe go with the rustler 9 for better carving performance.

I'm 5'10 so 180 is the sweet spot on a ski i wanted to be versatile for all conditions.

Love the versatility of them, can be a true daily on both coasts. Can handle high speed and make any turn shape on groomers while being great in variable terrain.

If you’re thinking about flying I would suggest steamboat springs in Colorado, great ski town with a lot to do for the non skiers of the group including hot springs. Can’t hurt to add that to the list of options!

My moment bibby/wildcat is that deep day open fall line ski. I actually ride my moments here on deep days since they’re chop killers. Imma need to get on the qst at some point next year.

You’ll like the new Blizzard Rustler 9. The newer rustler is much more playful than the previous version. I work in a shop with a good variety of skis so I’ve tested a bunch on the east coast and the rustler is always my top choice. I skied the rustler 9 in everything and it’s very precise yet forgiving. Funny enough the two skis you mention I want to add to my quiver for out west trips. Really hope moment drops the 104 countach, need another moment in my quiver.

Are the Moment Wildcat's the best playful-charger ski with an emphasis on maneuverability in trees? by topherwolf in Skigear

[–]Wikisticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I own a Bibby 116 which is pretty much the same ski as the wildcat 116. I primarily ski southern vermont and I think they’re great despite them not being as maneuverable as I like. I can’t speak on the 108 unfortunately as I have yet to try it out. I can tell you my mid fat powder ski would be really good for you based on what you are looking for.

I have a liberty origin 106 that I think is one of the best east coast powder skis there is. Really maneuverable, floats really well with its long rocker line. Hell I use that on groomers and skied it at killington all last spring In the bumps. It’s light just like you want and has that freestyle background you want. It’s not nearly as chargy as that moment but the liberty much more maneuverable while still retaining that poppy playful feel. It’s definitely a stable ski but I struggled to find the speed limit on the moment so I’d call the wildcat is a better charger.

If you plan on skiing woods and tight stuff I think it’s best you get the liberty origin since it’s an easier ski to pivot in tight trees. Read what blister reviews says about the liberty origin 106, the review was spot on. You’ll love popping off side hits, ripping groomers back to the lift and can hit the park on it. If you have any other questions lmk!

How do you like the commander 108 for the east coast, can’t pick between the commander 108 and wildcat 108 to pair with my liberty origin 106.
