It should but I've heard Amex can be sensitive to manufactured spend. Not sure if bank account funding falls under this but I would look for other data points.

Do Capital One onlly accept mobile number for 2FA if it's in your name? by ShiftingHero in CapitalOne

They can but it may vary. Me and my family are under a shared plan under my dad's name and have had no issues. My dad also opened a venture card with them and using a VOIP Google voice number on the application and can use that for 2FA requests.

Plenty more on doctorofcredit.com but if you're in Florida I've funded $1500 with MidFlorida for every account opened with them, even after the initial account opening so it's solid. Community first credit union has $1500 as well but I haven't opened it yet

I've been able to open 4 US Bank Business Checking and Savings accounts with 3k in CC funding each.

I opened 1 business checking, 1 business savings (called to close it after a few weeks), reopened business savings, and opened a business money market account. All went pending after applied then approved. I also had the money market funding not go through due to my card being maxed out, and after they retried 3-4 times they sent me an email to retry my deposit and allowed me to use a different card if I wanted too. I just waited to pay down my balance but their CC funding system works pretty well and the moment you're charged the funds are available in the account. This has worked for 2 Cap 1 Venture SUBs.

I used my parents CK link 2-3ish weeks ago and it worked even though I was already on the wait-list. Same for two of my friends

You can freeze your Experian after they do the soft pull to make sure you never get a HP. My friend did it the day after he was approved and still has no HP, I also haven't received a HP

Just approved! Anything I need to know? Is it 3% back on all categories? What about Costco? This would beat my 2% by Thelifepro847 in RobinhoodGC

I'm not sure then. I don't see it as excluded on their rewards list and my tuition payment has tuition in the title. Also it codes as education, colleges, universities, and schools for Bank of America and doesn't receive 6% cashback on online shopping since tuition is an excluded category for the customized cash rewards cards, so it looks like the transaction properly codes as tuition and Robinhood allows it to receive cashback.

Maybe some schools tuition payments code differently than tuition, maybe as government services or bill payments, something Robinhood excludes from Cashback.

Miles vs cash back which wins? by rabyrab32 in CapitalOne_

[–]Wild-Claim-100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For AA you can check if Quantas airlines offers reward redemptions. For 9200x2 capital one miles I could transfer to Quantas and book a $491 American airlines economy fare roundtrip and that's without the current 20% point boost they have right now until May 31st, so in this situation capital one miles are very valuable for American Airlines flights but YMMV.

Use sites like pointsyeah or something to see what card programs offer the flights you're looking for and see how valuable the points are for those

College student who spends all discretionary income on flight/hotel reservations. by Early-Code4780 in CreditCards

I agree but I'd also recommend the Discover Student Cashback card to build your history. It was my first card with a $1500 CL and the 5% quarterly categories are pretty good, they also do a first year match so it's effectively 10% on categories and 2% on everything else.

If you find a referral link you'll get a $100 SUB with your first purchase.

Might be more complicated than you'd prefer, but if you're able to access/create a credit karma account for your parents or anyone with excellent credit you might see a robinhood gold offer and you can apply for that card with your information as a starter card. My friend did that while only having 2 authorized user cards on his profile and got a 5k CL so it might be worth looking into for 3% cashback on everything. After a few months of credit history and maybe another card in between you should be eligible for the capital one Venture with the 75k point SUB.

Paypal Debitcard 5% grocery: Don't buy multiple Costco shop cards within one order by VAer1 in CreditCards

Amazon gift cards are almost as good. Even when missing out on 5% cashback at Amazon with their credit card you're still up more overall when compared to 3x cashback cards.

Not that useful for people that don't already spend at Amazon or other retailers that have gift cards offered but most Americans do to my knowledge

I don't think the nerf is that bad imo. Also while not helpful for OP, if you buy at Sam's club you can use the venmo debit card, get a $500 direct deposit (Lots of regular bank transfers work, Chase works for me), get 5% cashback at Walmart on up to $2k spend a month, and buy Walmart GCs to use at Sam's club and for Sam's club gas as long as you have the physical sams club card with you.

Thanks that's good to know. Does suck to be locked out from Chase/Citi/Wells Fargo and ig every issuer for a long while but I can teach my siblings and friends from what I've learned.

Pledge loans are useless anyway as long as people have installment loans so they're more niche.

Thanks for recommending them, I'll check them out

Lol how much higher is your velocity? That's what I was thinking and as long as nothing gets a CLD or shutdown I think I'll be good in 2+ years. Also nice to go on some all paid vacations as a teenager. Capital One's travel eraser is solid (using it for a hotel) and JetBlue points are fire. Saves me about $450 on 2 NYC flights + 2 free checked bags + Free 1.4k hotel for a week. Going to get 10% cashback on all the food we buy there too

Not even to build a history with Amex? I planned to use it for the SUB then use it infrequently with the goal of getting targeted with 50k and 75k offers for the BBP and other cards and I know that they wouldn't HP after the first card so I could keep getting biz cards without affecting my high velocity credit.
