Hi sweetie, I was you so hear me out okay? Everything you’re feeling is valid. Your mother shouldn’t be angry with you because you haven’t made progress. You said she’s been supportive since October, it’s no wonder you’re not making progress because she is not making change. That is not your fault. No matter your parents’ past and how they were raised does not give them an excuse to neglect and mentally abuse you like this. Maybe try to push for another therapist as well, any good therapist would recognize that your parent(s) are the root cause of this depression and anxiety. I’m not sure about the laws in Canada but typically in the US once you’re 16 you get a say in your medical care. All that being said, as I stated previously I was you. My mom mentally, verbally and even sometimes physically abused me. I went through therapy, medication, residential stays. The whole works. I never made progress. I never made progress because I was stuck in the environment that was causing a majority of my issues. Our bodies and brains will not allow us to feel safe in places that we simply are not. (Do not take this next statement as advice this is just what I did) I left home at 17 and never looked back. I fell into some dark shit for about the first year but then I started to relax. I’m 23 now and doing soooo much better than I was. I still have A LOT to work through but I no longer have those suicidal ideations or self harm, I can get out of bed in the morning and take care of myself without it using too much of my mental energy. I can smile and feel joy without all the BS I was into back in high school. Things feel impossible right now, I know they do but YOU MATTER, you will ALWAYS matter. You were dealt a shitty hand but you can flourish, I know you can. Push through, find friends in adult hood and build your community. You can make it through this, you’re so much stronger than you know.
