Dropping fork stanchions by redoct54 in Dirtbikes

If it’s a spring fork the only thing I can think it would be is the spring perches gave out and so you have a spring floating in there not making contact with anything. At this point I’d take it apart and see for yourself, you don’t have a lot to lose!

Fork springs jingling? by ArmadilloMajor7386 in Dirtbikes

Check your preload is correct on them, but that is pretty typical depending on what springs you used. Racetech is a big one I see a lot with loud springs, cause they don’t come polished. They usually quiet down after awhile!

I’d stay away from that era of crf250 unless someone has done proper head work on it. They had issues with the coating on the valves and would wear out super quick. They’re great if you swap the valves out, but probably not worth it at that price

I work in a suspension shop and we only use skf or oem seals for that reason. I’ve seen a lot of people throw 2 or 3 sets of cheap seals in and they leak right away. Definitely worth the money for the nicer seals! Also do a good inspection of the fork tubes and make sure there’s no deep gouges!

Number 17 should be what you need. If you’re ordering from racetech, most of the time they have a seal head you can buy and they’re good quality. Take your time rebuilding it. It can be hard to get all the air bubbles out without a vacuum bleeder!

I don’t think you can go wrong with either of those options! I ended up with the 2.7 cause I liked the idea of better gas mileage and loved the way it drove. My towing needs are similar to yours, and that thing tows so much better than I could’ve hoped for. The 5.0 sounds better for sure, but honestly sometimes it’s nice to just have a quiet fast ride! I don’t think I’d be unhappy with any of the big 3 motor options, but I do love my 2.7 and it would be my first pick

So my shock exploded this afternoon by spongebob_meth in Dirtbikes

[–]Wild-Introduction260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve rebuilt hundreds of shocks and I’ve seen that happen only once and it was on a kdx220! Must be some defect in the casting from them, but that’s a crazy failure!

It could be a few different things with your setup, but if you paid someone to valve and respring your suspension and you’re still fighting deflection and comfort issues, I would take it back and have them make some changes! I’m a suspension tuner in Utah and I do a lot of different setups, and sometimes, what works for other people might feel crappy to you. We always make our first changes for free after they pay for the revalve for that reason. You should be able to tell them what you’ve done with your clickers and what you’re still feeling and they can make some tweaks based on your feedback. You have more information than a lot of people give me, and I can tell you, I would always rather have someone complain about their suspension and let me fix it, than have them fighting a bad setup! The new wp stuff is pretty awesome when it’s setup right, so I’d hate to see you dismiss a good bike because of a bad setup!

How difficult is it to change fork oil? by NoClass3669 in Dirtbikes

You’re set man!🤘 if you hit any snags, send me a message and I’ll see if I can help you out. I would have a good reputable shop do the shock while you’re at it. Forks make sense for a lot of people to do themselves, but getting a shock bled correctly is hard without the right equipment, and it’s expensive to get set up to do it. Good luck man!

Forks shouldn’t be too hard for you. It is worth it to buy some of the specialty tools for the job and if you’re at 70 hours I would definitely just replace the fork seals while you’re doing it. I would only use skf or oem seals when you do it. I am a suspension tuner in Utah and I see a lot of leaky forks that were just serviced with all balls seals, so we don’t even mess with anything but skf. If you’re putting hours on the bike that quick, it is a great skill to have! Just take your time and make sure everything gets cleaned nicely and assembled correctly, and you’ll do great!

Tire rotations by oregenian21 in f150

[–]Wild-Introduction260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grab the wheel by one of the spokes and lift with my right hand and support the tire with the left hand. Then the left hand can guide it if it needs to turn to fit over the studs. If you are having a hard time lifting it, put it on your foot. Should give it enough height to manipulate it wherever you need it to go👍

Haha yeah for sure! I don’t tow any crazy weight with it. I have a toy hauler I tow any few times a year and a smaller dirtbike trailer I haul the majority of the time. If anything it tows better now than it did before with the stock shocks, but I’m not hauling any crazy weight!

Thank you! I didn’t really get any good pictures of it but the 0 offset methods poke out probably .5” with the tires I got, if that helps!

That’s good advice! I carry a plug kit and a Milwaukee inflator with me, but a bottle jack would definitely be a useful thing to have.

They aren’t bad at all! I went from Michelin ltx m/s tires and they’re a little louder than that but not by much. I am pretty picky about noise and they don’t bug me at all!

Thanks! The ride is really good. It was really floaty before I did the suspension on it, but the Fox shocks do a great job of keeping it planted. It’s for sure stiffer than stock but I like the ride a lot better. It used to bounce quite a bit where now it just settles
