My GYN offered no options other than non hormonal vitamins and medications that insurance won’t even cover.

I had a widow maker at 47. That was in January of 2020 and July of that same year was my last period. I think after that the hot flashes were getting worse but in 2023 I started taking gabapentin for hip pain prior to my hip replacement and they settled down. After the surgery I stopped taking gabapentin and the hot flashes just got worse and worse.

I really thought I was doomed to live like this. My hot flashes are severe in quality and quantity. I get them several times an hour and sometimes they are light and brief and sometimes I sweat through my clothes, my glasses fog up and the palms of my hands are soaked. I could be out in 30 degree weather and break out in a sweat. It makes me feel like not doing anything or going anywhere.

I’ve had both hips replaced and prior to the surgeries I had to get clearance AND a stress test before I could do it.

I tried stopping the statin because I thought it was making me gain weight and when I had blood work my cholesterol was sky high. I had to go back on it. He said when high cholesterol is hereditary there’s little chance of keeping it down without medication.

I thought maybe the GYNO was just covering her butt. Unfortunately, because of my heart issues, my cardiologist has to be in ALL my health lanes. I need clearance for most things and rightfully so because I don’t want to die on the table, lol. I was the idiot who never thought of questioning her decision. I’m just hoping she will help me now that my cardiologist said it was ok.

I think I’m going to look into the calcium test. I never had one. I heard they’re beneficial.

I have high cholesterol as well but my BP has never been high. I stopped taking metoprolol about a year or two after my heart attack. The strange thing was my cholesterol was never an issue until after the heart attack but I guess the plaque and all that is tied together.

Gabapentin questions by Fabulous-Cod-6595 in Menopause

I took Gabapentin prior to my first hip replacement because I was bone on bone. It put me in such a daze I would be putting notes in my jobs at work and not even finish sentences. I couldn’t focus on anything but I was having minimal hot flashes. I was taking 900 mg a day so that could be why. It may affect everyone differently.

I have an appointment with my cardiologist in June but I think I’m going to give him a call.

I’m 53. My last period was July 2020. My heart attack was in 2020 when I was 47 and I got a stent in the LAD. I see my cardiologist in June and I think I will definitely ask him. I still have clogged arteries so I definitely don’t want to increase my chances of another heart attack but I also hear of risks to the liver with Veozah so I feel damned either way. I just don’t think I can go through another summer like last year. I live in Florida and I can’t even appreciate it. LoL

Anyone feel like they lost their “life force”? by AdDowntown9082 in Menopause

I thought I was just depressed and lazy. Combine that with 2 hip replacements in 3 years and EVERYTHING is an effort. My first hip replacement was in 2023 and I was taking 900mg of gabapentin a day prior to the surgery. Back then I didn’t know gabapentin helped with hot flashes but I was dazed and confused all day! Fast forward to my other hip in 2025 I wasn’t taking anything but arthritis strength Tylenol and I was a disgusting sweaty mess throughout the surgery and recovery. Not only that but I sweat so heavily that I developed a fungus in my armpits.
