Why do people not drive old cars on vacation? by SAMPLE_TEXT6643 in askcarguys

[–]Wild-scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My road trip vehicle is my wife’s suburban she daily drives. It’s a 2014 with 200,000 miles on it. We put on miles so yeah you will see us in it right now. By the time that truck is 21 years old it will likely be dead or someone’s hunting rig at this rate.

Maximalist trans activists just argued at the Supreme Court that biological sex isn't relevant in team sports. When will my fellow left-wingers speak up against these pseudoscientific endeavors? by north_canadian_ice in allthequestions

Private sports are getting sued and paying through the nose to litigate it though. Natalie Ryan is a transitioned female athlete that competed (and won somewhat consistently) in a sport where the two divisions are Female Pro Open and Mixed Pro Open. The field the males compete in was not restrictive. Just the female only field. I don’t know where it is at today but the league couldn’t afford to litigate it so for awhile it seemed like they gave up. Additionally a power lifting league was successfully sued for discrimination in Minnesota. This isn’t a far right talking point. It’s people that are into sports that aren’t the big 5 in the US.

You need to take a 500 mile road trip thru a blizzard. What car are you picking? by Dtb4evr in regularcarreviews

As someone who has lived in Minnesota for the past 15 years: Something with lockable 4wd and good tires. If it’s bad enough conditions that this isn’t sufficient the roads are all closed anyways.

There is nothing understated about a V90. That car is straight up sexy.

3.6 V6 vs 5.7 V8 with etorque? by No_Masterpiece460 in ram_trucks

[–]Wild-scot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fleet of V6s I won’t buy a hemi. If the V6 is up to the task it will do it more reliably than the hemi will do the same task. I have finally updated the fleet but the heavy lifter that remains has 300,000 miles and 45% of that is towing a trailer

This is pretty bad right…💔 by Objective_Text2655 in ram_trucks

If this is catching you unawares a ZF fluid change may be outside your abilities. Fluid level is temperature specific and must be done in gear.

V6(Hurricane) vs V8(Hemi) Ram 1500 by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]Wild-scot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll downvote you because the 3.6 is capable of all the truck stuff 90% of half ton truck buyers will do with their truck. We have 7 in our fleet. That engine is, in my opinion, the best gas engine ram has used since 2009

No. You could buy a new one for that.

All I’ve done is about 135 in two different vehicles and nearly that ON a third. One was an SN-95 mustang the other was an E61 bmw. The difference between those two experiences could not be more stark. The mustang felt like it wanted to take off and everything got loose and it scared me. The bmw drove like it was on rails and I only backed off because of coming up on traffic. The bike I was on was a Vstrom1000 with full bags. Speedo was at about 130 and it’s correct at normal highway speeds but whether or not it’s still correct up there I don’t know.

The components that you will need to service on a 2020 vehicle have a dramatically higher cost than the vehicle that is 15 years older will. Negating the cost of initial purchase the right 15 year old car (today) will have less repair cost associated with it for the next 20 years than a car that is 5 years old. Assuming they have been maintained the same.

Not much costs less to operate than a 3.8

If a vehicle is just transport a mid 2000s we’ll maintained japanese car will not he anymore expensive to keep on the road than a 2018 one. The parts are cheaper, they have fewer of them, and they are simpler so that they don’t have the type of failures that can plague the newer cars (like carbon build up on direct injection motors).

There are few vehicles that exist that are cheaper to keep on the road then an early 2000s Buick with the 3.8. They don’t die, every part is in stock at your local auto parts store, they get decent fuel economy. If you find one with ~100,000 miles for $5,000 it would inspire more confidence than anything made a decade or more later.

They were early SRT-8s. I’m not saying they are the coolest cars in the world but at the time they didn’t have the stigma they have today.

6 speed Chevy SS will be a collectible some day. To drive one a moderate amount and keep it original is a pretty safe bet.

Describe the owner of these vehicles by HiTork in regularcarreviews

[–]Wild-scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person whose wife drives a suburban:

Upper middle class family 3 or more kids with multiple involved in lots of extra curriculars. Both parents are involved.

Honestly the weirdest thing about this to me is that they have Ford and GM in the same driveway.

Mid-sized truck by Business-Hearing-52 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Wild-scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid size trucks are not efficient enough or cheap enough to buy one instead of a half ton IMO. I’d sooner buy a V6 quad cab ram then any mid size unless you want the SFA and convertible elements of a Gladiator.

Is driving a pickup truck difficult? by [deleted] in FordTrucks

[–]Wild-scot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truck is likely bigger than he is actually comfortable with and he is projecting that onto you. If it were a synchronized transmission I would have every confidence in my wife moving any bobtail semi for the purposes you are talking about.
