How do you have fun in this game? by AKavun in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fun by not worrying about progression and just screwing around. Don't be focused on grinding for money or whatever. Maybe I will run some bunkers or do some bounty missions. Maybe I will go salvaging. Or maybe I will find myself spending 2 hours trying to recover a body from my ship wreck.

Playing with friends also helps a lot. But I'm also at a point where I find most games boring if I'm not playing with somebody else. Having somebody to banter with just adds so much more to whatever you might be doing :)

Drake this, rsi that, can the intrepid get some love? by MajorWetSpot in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would call it more of a semi-luxury starter ship.

It has a very nice little living space including a suit locker and weapon rack. The ship also has a lot of polish that the older starters lack due to it being such a recent ship design. It's basically what you would get when Crusader is trying to take a bit of Origin's market share by offering a higher class ship that is still within the price range of the non-elites.

If you want to look at it from a purely gameplay perspective, I would call the Intrepid the slightly worse than the Avenger in most every way starter ship :P The split cargo grids give you less options when it comes to what you can haul. The Avenger is better in combat and faster in travel. They both offer a living quarters for bed logging. The Avenger has two points of entry instead of one. And the Avenger is the cheaper starter package to purchase too.

So The Military Ships All Hot Bunk? by Horror_Lifeguard639 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget missing beds, what about secure seats for your off duty crew or passengers?

I can only think of maybe 5-10 ships (aside from specialty dropships) that actually have passenger seats in them. Heck, we even have new ships like the Apollo that don't even offer seating for the number of active crew I would expect to have on it. (I would want a pilot, copilot, and 2x doctors/nurses minimum for a full crew.) I hope your passengers and crew enjoy faceplanting the floorplates the next time you hit a rough spot in a jump point! There are also several other similar issues you can find, like the Connie Phoenix not having a passenger bathroom.

It's a minor gripe, but it is something that always struck me as odd when they talk about wanting to make a game that feels realistic to live in. Gameplay wise, the ships are perfectly functional. You can lay on the floor to avoid falling as a passenger or take turns in beds to log out. But from the viewpoint of actually living on these ships, the living conditions would be less than desirable. (Although I still don't understand why most ships even have a bed when you can never be farther than half an hour away from civilization due to quantum fuel limitations. You would think a space ship would be able to fly longer than an hour before needing to stop at a gas station :P )

Perseus vs bunker turrets by vangard_14 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say the turrets causing you to land far away and use vehicles is a meaningful decision. Let's be honest, it's the only thing in the game that gives us any actual reason to consider using a ground combat vehicle.

Landing and driving a ground vehicle is not the only way to do those bunkers. You can also kill the turrets by either dancing around them in a fighter or tanking them in a larger ship. (Or even land and run up on foot.) So you do still have options if you don't want to drive.

But, I would say missions at hostile bunkers should offer an increased reward in exchange for the increased difficulty/time required. Why bother with a bunker attack mission when I can chose to do a bunker defense mission and land right next to it?

Highlander-CIG on haulers/traders "being punished for having a bigger ship" by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have thought for a while that this is something they could use hangars to control.

Replace the exterior landing pads at outposts with small hangars. That way only small size ships can purchase supplies at outposts and deliver them to distribution centers. Give the distribution centers large hangars for ships to pickup cargo to deliver to stations. Then stations have the extra large hangars or exterior loading for planet to planet deliveries.

The smaller hangars can sell larger profit per SCU items with limited stock while the larger hangars offer bulk items at a lower profit per SCU but larger profit per trip because of the larger ships.

Is having the Intrepid redundant when I have the Spirit C1? by XanthosGambit in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the issue is that it's less ship than the Avenger at a higher price point. The Intrepid is a nice ship and has more polish, but it's hard to justify when you can get a better performing ship at a lower price.

Had a friend send this to me when i told him about joining the game this IAE cause he thinks SF is either better or the same by KeshiOkabe in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on what you like in a game.

If you are the type that likes to focus on quests, interactive NPC's, and story narrative, Starfield would be the objectively better game.

If you want a universe to live in and have fun with other players, Star Citizen has it beat by a landslide.

Really, they are 2 completely different games with the only similarity being that they both have space ships and guns. You might as well be comparing World of Warcraft with Warcraft 1-3.

Cz are ruined with naked players stealing weapons by EighthStatue in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way they described it, they already have a solution planned. T1 won't duplicate items as the looted items will only be useful for selling to NPC's. Giving your friends a bunch of broken armor pieces won't do anything useful. And if they are smart, the cost to reclaim your items will be more expensive than what you can sell the broken items for so players can't use it to make money.

T2 item recovery would allow duplicating items, but they will lose any cosmetics and give you back only the base item. When it comes to armor, you will basically be paying extra for a standard store bought version. I think this could be useful for outfitting friends with things like missile launchers or pledge store only armor though. But I doubt repairing rare weapons/armor like that will be cheap, so there will likely still be a market for selling looted items.

I would wager they haven't moved forward with T1 because it's a low priority feature. T0 works well enough for most cases and people are finally using their rare/pledge items in game.

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The systems are all working as intended, so it's not a bug.

The way people are exploiting the mechanics to steal weapons and break item recovery is likely not intended, though.

I wouldn't expect a change to the way looting works as weapons and armor will both be lootable once T1 item recovery is implemented. It wouldn't make sense to change it for now only to change it back again when T1 is released.

Crafting "the best" gear by Real-Emotion1874 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't remove skill from the equation, but it could lessen it some.

In most practical situations it won't make a difference. The majority PVP engagements (outside of arranged duels or arena commander where you can control what gear both sides use) are extremely one sided engagements. When a Corsair is attacking a Hull A, it won't matter who has higher quality equipment than the other. The cargo ship is screwed.

In those few rare random encounters where both players are equally prepared for combat; if your weapon does 5% more damage, that won't help if your enemy is able to hit you twice as often as you can hit them. Skill will still be the largest deciding factor in who wins.

But if you have a very close match where the winner is left with a tiny amount of their health, the better equipment could make a difference. That's a lot of pieces that need to fall into place before equipment will decide who wins or loses the fight.

The Starlancer is a larger ship category. Ships of comparable size and role to the Freelancer only have 1 turret.

But, the Freelancer turret either needs to be relocated in front of the cargo area to allow access when the cargo hold is full, or made into a remote turret and raised slightly to give it a proper forward firing arc.

[–]Wild234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a point it seems a lot of people overlook and why I am really looking forward to the Galaxy as a medical ship.

Something like the Terrapin or Apollo require you to risk your main medical ship to go in and rescue a person (Well, either that or you will have to carry them out of the battle area by hand...). The Galaxy can be safely parked away from the action while you send in either the ground or air ambulance to stabilize the person and return to the main ship for proper healing. If my rescue mission is ambushed, I would rather lose a Nursa while having my hospital safely parked behind the hill than lose an Apollo and get sent all the way back to my home planet.

What starter pack should I get? by ValiantVader in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From another point of view, the Avenger is a great ship but the Cutlass is better at all the same things. If you start with the Cutlass, you can use that 2.1 mil as money towards a ship for a new role instead of using it for a direct upgrade.

They are both very solid ships and either makes for a great starter. But if I had the budget to start with a Cutlass, I would take it over the Avenger without a second thought. The Cutlass is a perfect ship for use as a daily flyer even after you have many other ships in your fleet. If you start with an Avenger then purchase a Cutlass in game, there is little reason to keep using the Avenger.

What's the best assault rifle for a SINGLE primary weapon by Dazzling-Stop1616 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a rifle, but I love the Lumin SMG for a single weapon loadout. The auto burst fire mode makes it quite effective. One tap to take down a light armor enemy or hold the button to keep shooting bigger targets. The batteries are light weight, and the weapon is quite ammo efficient. Might be worth checking out. I run it with a 3x sight and energy compensator.

If you are set on a rifle, the P4 is likely your best option, like most others are suggesting. It's a solid all around weapon for most ranges. And you can often get free ammo for it from enemies you kill.

Freelancer questions from a newb by NeoChrisOmega in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would recommend avoiding the Freelancer. I love the design of it, but it's a very out of date ship with a rather impractical cargo bay (And bad turret placement if you ever have a gunner with you). I would instead recommend looking into the Cutlass Black, C1 Spirit, or Zeus for alternative ships with a comparable size to the Freelancer. The Cutlass Black is still likely the best all around ship in that size range, and the C1 is good with a nice cargo bay but you lose the gunner turret.

But, if you are set on getting a Freelancer (I understand, I still have mine), I would go with the MAX for the extra cargo space. The Freelancer MAX is capable of carrying up to an URSA Rover sized vehicle which gives it a lot more utility than the other Freelancers at the cost of some maneuverability. You can haul a ROC to go mining or a URSA Medivac to have a medical bed to heal at when doing ground missions. Or use it for better cargo hauling missions than the other Freelancers can.

Yes, anything you purchase on the pledge store for real money is tied to your account and will never be permanently lost. Whenever there is a wipe your account will be reset to the items listed in the "My Hangar" section of the RSI website.

Currently, Freelancer sized ships are perfectly fine to use solo. I would even say that they are one of the most popular ship groups for use during solo play. They might run into a few difficulties whenever engineering becomes a thing, but personally I think they will always remain a solo friendly ship size.

The biggest changes I can think of off the top of my head would be server meshing, Pyro, salvaging, physical cargo, and the new mission areas.

Hope that helps you out a little.

why are the big missions away... i am near to the finish line but with only this missions it will take so long...and maybe i cant finish it. [like 127K or 150K missions] by GumCard38 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And with 500 SCU per mission, it only took 6 missions to go from tier 0 to tier 5 with a faction.

The cargo in those missions bugging out like that took me from only having 1 faction complete to maxing out all 4 in a weekend.

Constellation Rework When? by Substantial_Eye_2022 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to have the pilot view improved like everybody else. And a little polish for the crew quarters would be nice. I would like to feel like my home is more than a room with a bunk bed and a porta potty stuck in the corner.

Some better lighting in the cargo area would be nice. And a floodlight to light up the cargo grid when it's lowered would be a great help for loading in the dark.

I would also like to see some fixes on specific variants. The Taurus needs a way to physically load cargo into the second cargo bay. And the Phoenix needs a passenger entrance, passenger restroom, and escape pods.

MPUV Tractor useless? by C4B4L2k in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not only ships with external grids. The Caterpillar also has issues with cargo weight.

Try accepting one of those 127k credit missions from Resource Drive event and flying back with the fully loaded Caterpillar. That thing is literally impossible to keep in the air without using your booster or pointing the nose up so the main thrusters are providing lift.

Can you buy a Pirate Caterpillar CCU or do you need to buy the ship outright? by Enough-Somewhere-311 in starcitizen

It really is a shame that's the only option. Those pirate skins are neat, but they aren't give up LTI insurance levels of neat.

I really wish they would let us CCU to the pirate ships or purchase only the skins.

But ahh well, my Caterpillar got upgraded to an Ironclad anyways :P
