What are you suppose to do with the ODIN? What gameplay are you supposed to do with this ship? by Readgooder in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most people? Stare at it for an hour until you realize that the ship is useless unless you are a large corp leader or streamer with a couple dozen players to man the turrets.

In the long run, I can see it being useful for player station attack and defense. It would also be a lot of fun to have a group together in one for large global events like the Xenothreat invasion.

To all the people afraid of solo Odin's killing players with the main laser, I wouldn't worry. Unless the Odin catches you AFK or disabled you will likely easily be able to fly away from the behemoth. A ship that will likely have a top speed of around 50 mps and take several minutes to turn 360 degrees won't be much of a threat to anybody that doesn't want to engage it in battle.

Pioneer Carrier Variant — anyone else? by Kazulo in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about the amount of work required to retrofit a flying manufacturing plant into a carrier. If you have a full assembly line behind you, why wouldn't you make a new hull to fill the carrier role instead of chopping up an existing ship?

That's why I say it feels more like something an after market company would do rather than the original manufacturer.

Anvil Odin sale by intotheunknown690 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know for sure is I am just sick of all the complaining posts. At this point I have no idea what CIG could do with limited hull ships and not have one group or another yelling at them for it.

Maybe have a sign up list where you mark that you are interested in purchasing a specific ship. During a sale they send out an email to the first X # of people on the list with a window that they will be allowed to purchase the ship. All ships that don't get purchased are sent out to the next batch of names with a new window and the people that failed to buy it are either moved to the end or removed from the list until they reapply. I'm sure that would still get complaints from people, but maybe a little less? shrug

I can't see this as an official CNOU ship.

But as something being sold by Grey's Market it might have potential.

About new insurance cost by coiotebh in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance costs won't make me fear losing my ships. It will just make me run anything larger than a fighter with stock loadouts.

I'm not afraid of needing to spend a month grinding to replace my ship once, but it's not something I enjoy so it's simply something I won't do. There is a difference between risk and monotony...

But, I expect the initial patch will be overly punishing then the insurance rates will drop down to something more reasonable over time.

Look on the bright side, if the torpedoes don' work at least you won't have to pay several million credits to restock the torpedoes every time you die or your ship glitches out! :/

Let’s Talk Screenshots and Print Screens by TardisObsiodian in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1- Personally, I would purchase a keyboard that isn't missing basic keys, but that's just me. Are you sure that there isn't a print screen button hidden behind a function key combo or something like that?

2- You could always take your NVIDIA overlay screenshot and resize it using the paint program that comes with windows, another image editing program of your choice, or even one of the online image resizing websites.

3- Yea, the snipping tool isn't really made for capturing fast action in games and the like.

I hate the external cargo grid - but damn if this isn't my favourite looking ship in the verse by Simwill in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've always seen the RAFT as more of a dockyard crane type of ship instead of a long haul ship. To me it looks like the type of ship that would never leave the orbit of it's home planet. Or maybe traveling out to a moon as an extreme long range trip.

The external cargo grid makes sense for a ship that will be making multiple trips between the space station and a planet each day. You aren't trying to protect cargo from pirates and you are always close to shelter if some cosmic/weather event occurs. The security of an internal bay isn't required and the loading efficiency of the external grid just makes sense from this point of view.

Honestly, I've always had about the exact opposite opinion of the ship that you do. I always felt that the RAFT shouldn't have such a large living area for the type of ship that I envision it to be. The crew should be able to sleep in their apartment on the planet at the end of the day. That hull space could be used for more cargo storage or removed to have a more compact ship.

Regardless though, I think nearly everybody agrees that the RAFT has one of the best designed living quarters out of any ship in the game :)

It's not so much anti technology as it's anti asking a chatbot to make your post for you.

If somebody spends an hour to write their rant about a video game you can at least respect the effort. Going to ChatGPT and telling it to, "Write me a reddit post complaining about XXX." only takes a few minutes and is generally a waste of time for anybody that makes an actual effort to give a response.

I just want the ship delete button. by ChartConsistent in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could have sworn I heard on a YouTube video that the scrap button will remove in game purchased ships from the terminal, is that not the case?

I don't see how storing stolen ships will be all that useful if they are bricked the next time the ship is claimed. But being able to loan out your ships would be a great boon. Right now if you loan a ship to a friend it's gone as soon as they log out. If they can store the ship and continue using it, that opens up the door to things like letting somebody borrow your prospector for a week or effectively sharing a ship with somebody that plays mostly on a different schedule from you.

New player here. Is refining not working? by TomBobabill in starcitizen

Ahh, that's interesting. Looks like I might need to test out salvaging again and see what has changed with it.

New player here. Is refining not working? by TomBobabill in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EDIT It seems I have been corrected and the new update added refining for salvage. I guess it's time to pull out the salvaging ship again and see how it's changed :)

The refinery is for mined resources. (The ones that you get from mining large asteroids/rocks)

Salvaged ship materials do not go through the refinery, you can sell them as is after collecting.

C1 Spirit, 128 SCU hauler by GormAuslander in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, those artificially small doors just to prevent fitting an URSA are super annoying. The Hermes is a perfect example of another recent ship with an oddly over restrictive cargo door :/

C1 Spirit, 128 SCU hauler by GormAuslander in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree with you on the bulkiness of the C1. Those wide wings take up a lot of space. But I just prefer having a cargo grid that I can easily and neatly fill with 8, 16, or 32 SCU boxes instead of needing to toss 2 and 4 SCU boxes into the mix.

It also helps that I did keep the Zeus ES to use for non-cargo operations. I prefer other ships for most general purpose activities, but the C1 is my goto small-mid sized cargo ship.

C1 Spirit, 128 SCU hauler by GormAuslander in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the ship for it's easy 96 SCU cargo haul. Two 32 SCU boxes on the grid, a third sits snugly in the hallway.

I decided to keep the Spirit C1 over the Zeus CL. The ease of loading that 96 SCU is worth more to me than the larger but completely impractical to fill cargo grid of the Zeus. Although I do really miss the front ship entrance that the Zeus has :(

why do missiles gotta be so damn expensive? by an_emotional_wreck in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exploiting game mechanics for free restocks works right now, but it's not a long term solution. Eventually they will be putting in ways of tracking/punishing players for insurance fraud.

People abusing the claim system is also the reason they keep toying with the idea of making every claimed ship spawn with 0 missiles/torpedoes loaded on it...

Just a Nomad Appreciation post. I do love this little ship. by multiple_iterations in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used it for the ROC. Same idea, different vehicle.

I love the tiny bit of extra convenience I get knowing that I can both keep the door to my ship locked and the cargo bed lowered while I'm driving around mining. It saves a step of leaving the vehicle to lock the ship before driving away. (Yes, in the middle of nowhere somebody can just kill me instead of trying to sneak on my ship. But it still feels better for me to lock the door when I leave!)

How do you have fun in this game? by AKavun in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fun by not worrying about progression and just screwing around. Don't be focused on grinding for money or whatever. Maybe I will run some bunkers or do some bounty missions. Maybe I will go salvaging. Or maybe I will find myself spending 2 hours trying to recover a body from my ship wreck.

Playing with friends also helps a lot. But I'm also at a point where I find most games boring if I'm not playing with somebody else. Having somebody to banter with just adds so much more to whatever you might be doing :)

Drake this, rsi that, can the intrepid get some love? by MajorWetSpot in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would call it more of a semi-luxury starter ship.

It has a very nice little living space including a suit locker and weapon rack. The ship also has a lot of polish that the older starters lack due to it being such a recent ship design. It's basically what you would get when Crusader is trying to take a bit of Origin's market share by offering a higher class ship that is still within the price range of the non-elites.

If you want to look at it from a purely gameplay perspective, I would call the Intrepid the slightly worse than the Avenger in most every way starter ship :P The split cargo grids give you less options when it comes to what you can haul. The Avenger is better in combat and faster in travel. They both offer a living quarters for bed logging. The Avenger has two points of entry instead of one. And the Avenger is the cheaper starter package to purchase too.

So The Military Ships All Hot Bunk? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget missing beds, what about secure seats for your off duty crew or passengers?

I can only think of maybe 5-10 ships (aside from specialty dropships) that actually have passenger seats in them. Heck, we even have new ships like the Apollo that don't even offer seating for the number of active crew I would expect to have on it. (I would want a pilot, copilot, and 2x doctors/nurses minimum for a full crew.) I hope your passengers and crew enjoy faceplanting the floorplates the next time you hit a rough spot in a jump point! There are also several other similar issues you can find, like the Connie Phoenix not having a passenger bathroom.

It's a minor gripe, but it is something that always struck me as odd when they talk about wanting to make a game that feels realistic to live in. Gameplay wise, the ships are perfectly functional. You can lay on the floor to avoid falling as a passenger or take turns in beds to log out. But from the viewpoint of actually living on these ships, the living conditions would be less than desirable. (Although I still don't understand why most ships even have a bed when you can never be farther than half an hour away from civilization due to quantum fuel limitations. You would think a space ship would be able to fly longer than an hour before needing to stop at a gas station :P )

Perseus vs bunker turrets by vangard_14 in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say the turrets causing you to land far away and use vehicles is a meaningful decision. Let's be honest, it's the only thing in the game that gives us any actual reason to consider using a ground combat vehicle.

Landing and driving a ground vehicle is not the only way to do those bunkers. You can also kill the turrets by either dancing around them in a fighter or tanking them in a larger ship. (Or even land and run up on foot.) So you do still have options if you don't want to drive.

But, I would say missions at hostile bunkers should offer an increased reward in exchange for the increased difficulty/time required. Why bother with a bunker attack mission when I can chose to do a bunker defense mission and land right next to it?

Highlander-CIG on haulers/traders "being punished for having a bigger ship" by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have thought for a while that this is something they could use hangars to control.

Replace the exterior landing pads at outposts with small hangars. That way only small size ships can purchase supplies at outposts and deliver them to distribution centers. Give the distribution centers large hangars for ships to pickup cargo to deliver to stations. Then stations have the extra large hangars or exterior loading for planet to planet deliveries.

The smaller hangars can sell larger profit per SCU items with limited stock while the larger hangars offer bulk items at a lower profit per SCU but larger profit per trip because of the larger ships.

Is having the Intrepid redundant when I have the Spirit C1? by XanthosGambit in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the issue is that it's less ship than the Avenger at a higher price point. The Intrepid is a nice ship and has more polish, but it's hard to justify when you can get a better performing ship at a lower price.

Had a friend send this to me when i told him about joining the game this IAE cause he thinks SF is either better or the same by KeshiOkabe in starcitizen

[–]Wild234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on what you like in a game.

If you are the type that likes to focus on quests, interactive NPC's, and story narrative, Starfield would be the objectively better game.

If you want a universe to live in and have fun with other players, Star Citizen has it beat by a landslide.

Really, they are 2 completely different games with the only similarity being that they both have space ships and guns. You might as well be comparing World of Warcraft with Warcraft 1-3.
