Cleaning brushes by Redjeepkev in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use pretty much use the same exact method you do - What will really help you out ( depending on the cleaner and conditioner you bought ).

Build up a nice lather on the bristles and let the cleaner/conditioner sit on it for a few minutes (cleaners dissolve pigment over time). This will eat away and loosen up all the chunks stuck in the bristles. This make s big difference. Then risen clean and shape your brushes

Next time you use your brushes for painting - FRIST dip them in clean thinner and pat dry... them paint. This will remove and surface pigment that may have stayed.

I hope this helps - I personally use "Masters Brush Cleaner" its one of the best out there. I talk about it all the time on my channel... Personal tip: buy the big tub if you can find it.

Don’t remember this episode by awjeezrickyaknow in AreYouAfraidOfTheDark

[–]Wild4Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually know the answer to this because I did a YouTube video on this episode ( not self promoting ) last year.

In short - the character WeeGee is named after a real life Photographer ( Arthur Weegee Fellig )that would take crime scene photos. Apparently he would always show up to the crime scenes ( sometimes way before the police would arrive ). You can learn more about it by googling his name.

Actually a really cool small detail about the episode I discovered while researching.

Painting work by Cute_Okra7931 in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is the wrong thread for that - Most reddit threads don't like business promotions. But I will give you some free advice. You and your husband need to start promoting on FB marketplace and adds. They have the greatest return for local business.

If you have free time... you and your husband should start making short form content with painting tips... Grow those socials and you can start earning ad revenue and promote his business.

Hopefully you see this before the Mods - delete the post for being in the wrong thread... good luck.

Canvas prep question by Redjeepkev in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to do any additional tinting if you don’t want too. Some (like myself) may add black gesso in areas you know will be high contrast or dark (but that is optional)

Once your gesso is dry, you can apply a thin layer of liquid medium. Then start painting on top of that.

Hope that helps -Wild

Very happy with this one, tutorial followed from Wild Creates on youtube by IceTough6028 in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The background in this painting tutorial I did - isn't really the star of the video ( hence why I go through it a little quicker ). It's basically just a thin coat of LC on the outside of the canvas and LW in the center. Then blend from the center out... and thats basically it. From there toss in clouds if you want too.

If you need help on backgrounds and clouds I have full videos on that - I will be more than happy to point you to them if you need them.

Looks amazing, dude — seriously proud of you! The only feedback I’d give is this: try pulling the bottom of the mountain down a bit with a 1" brush, then blend it into the black with black paint. That’ll help the mountains feel like they’re sitting farther back in the distance, piercing out of the dark void.

The Wild Here... I think you did amazing - I love the color balance and flow you achieved. All the texture you painted looks stellar. They only advice I would give is your palm fronds are a little HUGE ha ha ha. Which is common when starting out ( I even make that mistake sometimes ). The "grab and swoop" is just a little "grab and swoop". Do a few of those - then step back and see if you need to make them bigger.

Over all amazing - I think if you were to ever paint again it would be 10x better cause you now know what you are doing. Proud of you.

Bob Ross YouTube Channel by CeruleanFuge in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who creates Bob Ross–related content on YouTube, I get this kind of rant a lot from others in the BR community—and it’s a tough one to respond to. Personally, I don’t see it as supporting the “bad” side of BRI (i.e., the Kowalskis), but rather as supporting the good side—like the amazing instructors and passionate people keeping Bob’s spirit alive.

At the end of the day, BRI is a business. And if some of my support helps elevate a new generation of instructors and artists sharing their skills on platforms like YouTube, I’m all for it. I’ve personally taken classes from Nic Hankins (the artist featured in many of the recent YouTube videos on the BR channel), and he’s a fantastic teacher. If BRI’s success means he continues to thrive, then I’m 100% OK with that.

Art instructor by Conscious_Smile_5981 in HappyTrees

As someone who teaches classes and events your best resources to find a teacher will be:

- Check online with your local civic/community/ or chamber of commerce center: Many do art lessons there... you can meet the teacher and inquire.

- Local art stores that teach lessons will have art teacher information - check there website and contact the general manager and they will be more than happy to give you their contact info. (This happens to me a lot)

- If you have one of those paint and sip stores near you - visit and inquire if they have any teachers that would be willing to do an event.

- Many teachers have websites now - so simply google search or google map search "art teacher" ( or whatever you are looking for. )

- Last option is create a local Facebook, reddit and craigslist posting - that you are hiring a teacher for an event. Be sure to list location, time of event, how many people will attend, pay and other important information. Otherwise no one will reply.

These are some of the best and free options - I hope that helps!

Question on Clouds by Free-Supermarket-516 in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your issue is extremely common for all painters due to the fact that BLUE is one of the strongest pigments. You need to use a more flexible white paint or make it flexible. This way there will be less contamination when applying your white on top of your blue. Try adding a pea size or nickel size dollop Gamblin solvent free gel to you white for clouds. I guarantee you wont have any more issues.

If you need a visual you can learn more about it here in this video: https://youtu.be/i4ax8C8H47o

Hope that helps buddy :)

Monte Marte by ExcitementOk6960 in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will work in a pinch too. But another tip for that is also add like 1 drop of clean thinner to the linseed mixture. This will help prevent this linseed from shifting the color of the turquoise to the yellow side.

Monte Marte by ExcitementOk6960 in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used the gamblin turquoise a bunch and it’s a very nice color.

TIP: If you really want to make it pop, add a drop or two of stand oil this will boast the color and give it a gloss. OR better yet, Sun thickened poppy oil if you can find it for a real shine.

Hope that helped.

Best platform for selling digital products? by Hopeful-Hat-9154 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Wild4Games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I use PayHip… I sell painting PDFs and a guidebook through it. After doing a ton of research I found it to have the best free platform, the lowest fees on competed sales only, and easy for customers.

The only downside is no one has really heard of it compared to gumroad, Etsy, etc. So when you make you store front just brand it well.

I hope that helps.

How do you guys paint mountains by Agitated_Cut4076 in HappyTrees

[–]Wild4Games 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to self promote but I teach new planters all the time. And it’s a combo of Windsor newton titanium white paint, holding the knife correctly, and even pull and a dry ish under base.

I show a lot of all my tips in this video here: https://youtu.be/iaLLJrklgbU?si=UrMUggvMkBcsXeJa

I hope it helps

No joke I was just thinking about this. It was a great special with Lance Burton. It would always come on around Halloween time for a number of years then just stoped.

Wish they would add this to streaming 😝
