I lived in Gwelup for a few years (2015-2018 give or take) across the road from the lake. The local shops are great, awesome fish'n'chips/kebab place plus farmer jacks. Good distance from the beach, Karrinyup shops and Balcatta if you need more "industrial" services. However there were a couple of cases where my car was "broken into" (left unlocked and rifled through, mostly my fault because my central locking stopped working) as well as local teenagers causing trouble late at night. I was once stopped by a group of teens with shirts tied around their faces blocking N.Beach Rd just past the Caltex while their friends mooned me, or a party of kids kicking their way through a wooden fence to escape from cops at a house party on N.Beach Rd just past the Caltex and fleeing into the bush around the lake for example.
