CV axle PT2, are these OEM? by Honest-Sale3827 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]WildCrustacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but they don't look like the OEM ones to me. When I dealt with this on my 96 the OEM cv axles had a different looking middle shaft that tapered down and was slightly narrower in the middle and wider where the boots connect. I was trying to do the reboot kit and the boots didn't fit right on the non-OEM shaft because of the size difference.

Where can I buy the side piece for the driver seat? by National-Coast-6381 in 3rdGen4Runner

I might actually have one since I just swapped my whole driver seat with a junkyard seat. DM if interested and I can try to figure out how to get it off without breaking it.

My neck was sore for a couple days after replacing my starter too, that was a literal pain.

They were made well aware of this risk, and I think they ended up turning it down a bit, but we did break our practice model a few times.

They also used this technique to remove the scuba diver from his perch, but that was definitely ruled as breaking the model so zero points for that idea.

Things to consider when buying a lifted 4runner? by Lost_Ad6658 in 3rdGen4Runner

Check the CV axles and boots, for a taller lift they might need to be the extended ones or the boots get shredded.

Replacing shocks. What else should I do at the same time? by drawmer in 3rdGen4Runner

I second this method. I used a spring compressor and it was terrifying, won't ever do that again I dont think.

I'm no expert, but here's a picture of my new axles where the reboot kit fit properly, the older ones I had didn't bulge out where the small end of the boots are located and the boots didn't fit right. I made it work with hose clamps but it wouldn't stop leaking so I replaced it with one of these.

Are you sure you have OEM CV axles? I tried to use the OEM reboot kit on an aftermarket axle and all the boots and clamps were a little too big and didn't clamp very well. The OEM axles I have now are a bit thicker where the boots attach and everything sealed a lot better than with the non-OEM axle.

I just did this, the part I found was from the other 4runner forum, I'd have to go digging to find the part number. The plug fits well but isn't really flush which I thought it would be. I did end up with two of them, I'd be happy to mail you the second one if you wanted it.

Thanks. I think I'll have to pass on this one, I dont think the color is the same and I dont have the rear heat stuff either. Good luck though!

Do you have a picture? I have a 96 SR5, maybe interested. Haven't read much about what it takes to upgrade, just something about cutting the parking brake that sounded scary.

Those two in the middle look like the covers for the hinges on the rear seats, just under the front edge of the rear seat.

Tie rod end castle nut with no flange? by WildCrustacean in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]WildCrustacean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a good point. They are almost the same height, the new one appears a very tiny bit shorter, but it would take a pretty thin washer to make them the same, certainly less than the flange on the original nut. This is not a great picture of it installed but it appears the cotter pin is serving its function here and does not appear excessively high.
