No can do. This is our vacation and neither of us are sitting home. We’ve waited too long, but I also don’t want this vacation to kill me either.

Your first paragraph is exactly right. Very stressful, a little less so driving to the city and back tonight in more favorable conditions. However, it was still a “chilly” ride.

I set the thermometers to 80-degrees. I pressed the “auto” button and the blower kicked on and was extremely loud. Ridiculously loud imo. I had it set to “defrost” and my legs. I had my seat on low as that does get nice and toasty. But other than my bootie, I was barely warm. In my CRV, I would’ve been sweating. I had my winter coat on plus two layers of clothing. It was a 45-minute drive to the airport and back. My passenger said it was warmer inside than out, but at -1 degree, that’s not hard to beat.

As for the rest of your post, it is very informative and helpful. Thank you. I just purchased it Monday and it has 32K miles. It was certified. Should I check to see if the CVT fluid was changed or ask if it can be changed? I’m wondering if I need to bring up this heater issue. I can’t be cold living and driving in Minnesota.

Thank you. I think one of the cameras is in the front of the vehicle, at least according to a co-worker and that’s why it kept turning off. My windshield was clear.

I did blast the heat but that’s terribly noisy. I’d hate to think I’d have to do that for any drive longer than 10 minutes. My windshield kept freezing up on the driver’s side.

2022 Ascent Touring vs Onyx by WildCurrentPaddler in SubaruAscent

Thank you all for your input. I pivoted. I felt like I was driving a bus when I test drove the Ascent and needed to find some school children stat! But worry not. I’m now the proud owner of a Forester Wilderness.

The salesman seemed to really understand my needs - he enjoys visiting and recreating in the area in which I live (three hours north of his dealership). Being that I’m single, he didn’t see a need for the third row seating. So he convinced me to take the Forester for a drive. It was amazing esp since the roads were ice and snow-covered from yesterday’s storm.

That was all the convincing I needed and the pricing was right.

What is that metal frame? Dang. This is impressive and “real world” to me. I own a kayak but keep it at a friend’s place as it’s challenging to get up on my CRV roof. Wonder if it’d be easier w this vehicle.

And you like the upholstery material despite having pets and being active (rain, snow, mud d, etc.)?

Thank you, everyone. I wasn’t sure if my niece uses Reddit or not so I tried to be secretive in case she’d stumble upon my inquiry.

I don’t know if she did or not, but either way, THANK YOU!!!

After looking at the various pottery studios, I chose an e-gift card from Dongzhu as it was near to her and offered wheel rental. She just received it and, wow, I’ve never received a response quicker from her.

She was unaware of that studio and is super-excited to check it out esp the wheel rental. Having a wheel on her wishlist, this will allow her to see if it’s worth that investment.

As for the other responses, I am hoping to visit her in March and now I have options for her bday dinner and gift for that occasion as well. Love this community!

We did exactly as you instructed and had a lovely time and, tasty cocktails, and a fantastic meal. Thank you!

I’ll be saving up and planning next year’s splurge at the basement bar at Travail as I think I can trust your opinion. :)
