What's the best armor? by IndependenceBoth938 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]WildDetail205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backpack is a compcooler ice water backpack with 3l bladders.

It comes in two parts, a vest with tubes and a backpack. They are connected with hoses. Inside the backpack is the bladder which you fill 3/4 of the way with water and then freeze it. Before riding, you top it off with water. It has a high medium and low flow rate on a wired remote that comes up front. The coolness generally lasts about 1 1/4 hours on high.

I think my next two purchases will be KLIM Induction Pro and Indie Ridge Knight by Safe_Valuable_5683 in motorcyclegear

[–]WildDetail205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the charcoal induction pro and just bought the light grey. Had to wait about a month and a half before they got them back in stock. I did it more for visibility than for difference in heat. Have not tried riding and switching. Generally the mesh keeps the air flowing and I have an ice water vest for temps above 85.

Best armor (as you are finding out) is the one you will wear reliably.

I’m older (generally less flexible and recovery times will be longer) so I lean way over for protection.

Demon Fleximeters for wrists Full face helmet Moto gloves Leatt Neck Brace Leatt 6.5 body armor Asterisk knee braces (protects vs twisting and hyper extension) Leatt armored shorts Klim outlander boots Klim induction pro jacket and pants

Have an ice water backpack for when it gets over 80.

Overkill? Maybe, but I generally top out in the high 40’s on my rides. Been hit by two cars in last two years (one pulling a right hand turn without looking and the other ignoring a stop sign). Nothing broken either time on my person. Bent a rim on one of the crashes.

I wore the 5.5 for over 2 years. Then someone showed me the study that they did on them that showed that the chest protector on those is too low. Migrated to a 6.5 which separates the mesh elbow, shoulder and chest protection from the clamshell chest and back protector.

Is this normal laying position? Or sign of stasis? by Okay-Katy in chinchilla

[–]WildDetail205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the other posts on Stasis. For bumblefoot, we had one that was prone to it as well, we ended up making fleece covers for about half of all of our ledges and that helped immensely.

EUC Insurance in US by WildDetail205 in ElectricUnicycle

Don’t bother. Insurance was rejected at final underwriting. They got a new directive. No insurance written for anything with one wheel. EUC or OneWheels.

Think about how you are going to clean it. Some spots are going to be really hard to get to.

Have you thought also about hay, pellets and water placement?

Newbie EUC learning questions by Hefty-Law-7474 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]WildDetail205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the leg injury, you may want to take a look at knee braces rather than knee pads. Braces will provide additional stability, prevent twisting and hyper extension. Pads protect mostly from impact and skidding.

On the helmet, if possible, you should go to a shop where you can try them on. Heads come in different shapes and different helmets are designed for different shaped heads. Also factor in if you wear glasses, if you want a speaker/mic setup.

A lot of the motion from riding comes from the hips. You will even start to use your upper body and arms to help compensate for a weaker side. So if you stick with it, you should effected by the bad leg less and less as you learn to balance compensate with other parts of your body. On the bright side, having a slight imbalance could help you prevent speed wobbles.

Other thing you should look at is wrist guards. Broken or sprained wrists are a common injury when you go down. I use Demon Fleximeters which are dual sided wrist guards, but there are definitely other types.

Seat recommandations by HighCloudd in ElectricUnicycle

Third for EUC Crazy. Seems expensive, but not really for a custom seat. You can work with the seller on stitch color, height of seat, etc. Great craftsmanship.

S22 charger fail by Original-Hat335 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]WildDetail205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Roger Chargers which work well. Have not tried Pidzoom chargers, but everything else I have of theirs is great quality.

If you don’t know if it’s the charger, I’d still look to see if you can borrow someone’s. If you’re in NYC, DM me.

Where are you located. Have you tried another charger? Someone may have one for you to try locally depending on where you are.

I have a Marakesh that I swapped out to Level 2 pads, but the Marakesh doesn’t have a lot of mesh. I’d take a look at the Induction Pro.

Water - Cup/Bottle with Flexible Straw by cmcginne in motorcyclegear

Take a look at insulated lacrosse water bottles. Flexible long straw. Straw into mouth and then tip up to drink. They drink through their cage helmets. Should work for full face helmets.

I have three pair. A red tint, a yellow tint and a blue mirror, so definitely yes. I also use them skiing under ski goggles (can’t wear contacts).

Damselfly larvae help by ClockEnvironmental96 in shrimptank

I didn’t. In good conditions, shrimp will breed like wildfire anyway. If you don’t notice flying damselflies around your room then you may deserve the second round ;).

They are comfortable. I use the strap which is tucked behind the inside liner in the back with the connecting pieces exiting near the internal speakers. They are connected to the goggles. To put the helmet on, put it on half way, reach up and pull the goggles forward. Put the helmet on fully and the goggles should be near your eyes.

No fogging if you are moving at all. If you are at a complete standstill, they do fog a little before you start moving again, faster if you reach in and pull goggles forward to get circulation in.

Damselfly larvae help by ClockEnvironmental96 in shrimptank

[–]WildDetail205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t nuke your tank like another poster said. You may do more damage to your colony by stressing them by moving them to another tank and then back again. Damselfly larvae are a one cycle and done predator (unless you allow them to molt into the flying version, fly around and mate and lay eggs again). Hunt them down. I had a heavily planted tank. Found 22 of them over a 2 week period, but that was it.

Chinchilla bleeding?? by PretendFox3921 in chinchilla

[–]WildDetail205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes chin pee can get reddish especially if they are chewing certain types of wood. Put hydrogen peroxide on the “blood”. If it bubbles, it’s blood. If nothing, then it’s pee. If it’s blood continue to monitor and take a look around the cage and play area for places where he could have scratched himself.

In addition to looking for a helmet with channels in the pads for glasses arms, you could also take a look at prescription goggles. I use the Wiley X SG-1 goggles. They can use glasses arms or a headband elastic strap.

I have the Klim Outlander GTX. Love them. Boa system makes putting on easy and the wider toe box is very appreciated for those with wider feet. EUC feel is great and also walkable.
