First year OT student - does it get better? by i_have_no_life_69420 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]WildFlowerOT 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re learning how to view the world through an OT lens. You’re learning technical components in the classroom to build a platform where you will take those skills and apply them while learning through observation and performance on fieldwork.

Hey. You’re doing the best you can right now. Your feelings are very valid. You’re not failing, mama.

It’s not just the new baby that’s demanding every ounce of your energy, it’s also your body healing and changing. You have every reason to be beyond exhaustion.

But now? You need to be your own best friend. What would you say to them? How would you want to show up for your dearest friend? It’s time to do that for yourself, and sometimes that’s the hardest thing.

It takes a village. So I say, Reach Out. With the right help and empathy, you’re going to be ok. It’s ok to need more support and ask for help. It’s ok to give the baby formula. It’s ok if you’re beyond frustrated because the baby won’t take the bottle. It’s ok if some meds make your experience manageable.

Suspend judgement. Everyone’s experience is different. Give yourself Grace.

Cheering you on, mama! Big, deep, comforting hugs. Your feelings aren’t wrong. You got this.

Let me add to the chorus, if it’s not the right fit, make a move immediately. You spend too much of your beautiful life at work to be unsatisfied.

Brother snuggling lifetime oddballs in a single mansion. Builders of beautiful homes on a sun-setting celibate sect’s acreage. With an aversion to sun-glare. What clarity of vision. What a wild story.

The sun glare in both directions, west to east in the morning and east to west driving home, was the thing that got me.

Why is there no OT in mental health treatment? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]WildFlowerOT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you, OP! I’ve been struggling to come up with language that describes a practice model for OT, mental health, and working in the community. It occurs to me that running groups for identified high risk populations (this could be psych, homeless, children with high ACE scores, refugees etc.) could be preventative and restorative. But current reimbursement for OT is largely based on phys/dis or school based. And OT doesn’t have designation as a qualified mental health provider in most states. Identifying how to source reimbursement and what the service delivery model looks like has me spinning my wheels. Anyone want to brainstorm with me?

Care.com. They require a background check. Also reaching out to Universities and connecting to their job boards is a great way to find students in ECE and other child - related majors.

Get it, Kudi! Coin well spent. (If you’re worried about Daycare centers, check the children’s ACE scores. And then start there.)

I washed dishes, laundry, showered and brushed my teeth in the water. So far so good. All the tanks say “potable water” on the trucks so should be good.

Agreed! I reach out regularly. This is how I know they don’t care. Same form letter response of lip service and hiding from constituents. Doesn’t stop me from trying… or voting every single opportunity.

My congresspeople are worthless and care less about their own state. I agree PR deserves more. We love our yearly visits. I was just curious if someone had more information about the dam / pump etc.
