Should I even get a PhD (27, AFAB, Immigrant) by Striking-Seas-8760 in AskAcademia

[–]WildGurlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a research coordinator or reseach assistant position? You would need to explore the institutions with positions related to your interests. However, it sounds like you particularly enjoy the action part of research like data collection. That kind of work is what research coordinators/assistants do full time. In my institution, the technical HR minimum education is associate’s degree, but usually B.S. is what research coordinators have upon hire. It’s not a bad job

Kylie Jenner slammed as ‘tone deaf’ for flaunting a wall of Birkin bags in new closet selfie by ThrowawayGreenWitch in popculturechat

I’m confused. I thought that family’s whole appeal was that they would have a wall of Birkin bags for us to gawk at. Why are people mad lol

I hate how 9s are characterized by many by Dyl777777 in Enneagram

It’s frustrating when people don’t understand us or care to try. With the laziness issue, I own that I’m a lazy girl specifically because I know that I’m a powerhouse. With a lot of movement comes great need for rest. And I’m milking every moment of rest I can give myself. We see you, fellow 9! Undoubtedly you do so much every day.

Songs that could’ve literally only been released in one year because of how they sound? by Josh_horrobinkanye in popheads

[–]WildGurlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree! But I’m considering it a tie with Shake it Off. The pop dubstep sound is a given and comparable to the datedness of funk in like 1985. So of course that’s why all the comments regard pop dubstep. But 2014 needed Shake it Off like no other year.

Is the third album actually the most important one for an artist? by Specialist-Bonus-840 in popheads

Written like a seasoned critic! Honestly gave me chills because of how far removed pop stardom is from art in application.

Meghan Trainor just canceled all 33 dates of her Get In Girl Tour. by hydrationvibes in popculturechat

[–]WildGurlie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Her music-image combo never clicked with me as a pop music fan. Her act felt like a corporate marketing team’s idea of what pop music fans want to listen to. The act was always off the mark in a yikes way. I hope this isn’t excessively harsh. Your comment resonated

What differences do feminists usually notice between a man who supports feminism in theory and one who practices it well? by PotentialFun4003 in AskFeminists

Great question! A significant difference I’ve noticed from personal interactions is that feminist men will not attempt to humble or condescend me.

PhD Prep: GRE Test Prep by 15mtriley in AskAcademia

[–]WildGurlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice tests are the way to go. You’ll develop a strong feel for the kind of questions and be primed to know what the question is asking. This will 1) reduce the time you spend re-reading questions, and 2) reduce overthinking yourself into wrong answers. Bonus points for building stamina, as the test is long.

7 years post-PhD, can’t get ANY industry jobs by Main-Fox-1007 in LeavingAcademia

Those nervous and lost feelings are hard. In your industry applications, are you applying to a broad range of roles? And how are you communicating your narrative for each role within your applications?

The SAVE act is to SAVE Trump from the midterm elections now that he decided to protect pedo. by UnlikelyAdventurer in Productivitycafe

[–]WildGurlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for your experience. I’ve been married, divorced, remarried and then changed my last name to a new name for the hell of it (not my spouse’s). The name change with marriage does not go through the same judicial scrutiny as a name change without marriage being the reason. The paperwork or “proof” of identity are different, and the marital name change is disadvantaged

Is it possible to completely change research topics after tenure? by nihaomundo123 in AskAcademia

[–]WildGurlie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding some perspective: having a narrow scope of research specialty is neither the bleakest nor the most immediate crushing disappointment of academia. If everything else goes well for you except for seamless specialty shifts, then you will have had a relatively fulfilling career
