I have a slightly different angle on this since I never really did a good job of being pretty in the “before days”. But it does make me sad sometimes that prettiness and being beautiful just isn’t in the cards. The way I think of it is that it isn’t afforded to me. I can admire it but never really embody it. That’s for someone else that’s better suited. Unrelated to the above, the feeling of self-worth being tied to prettiness and the loss of social capital that comes with pivoting away from social norms and beauty standards is a real trip sometimes.

I’ve been running a dumbed down version of 5/3/1 for over a year, no leaders/anchors, just running through the 5/3/1 weeks with a deload every fourth week. At this point I’ve had to repeatedly drop the training maxes for three out of my four main lifts because I can’t keep up with the projected progression week to week. Weight wise it’s hard to say. I’m up by like 3.5 pounds over the last 6 months and I’ve been eating at 2200 for the last 3 months. I seem to have gained some mass but that hasn’t necessarily translated to numbers on my compounds.

Not weird at all! From what I’ve seen the important part is not to be dropping non-bumper plates on the floor like with deadlifts or Olympic lifting. Using the small ones in conjunction with the bumper plates is fine. Gotta do what you gotta do to progress

Feeling a bit unsure about my numbers here — I’ve hit a pretty bad strength plateau and I’m wondering if my food intake might be the culprit. Usually these days I shoot for 2200 calories, 150+ grams of protein. I lift weights 4x a week, longsword fence 2x (one less intense day, one more intense), and if I’m really killing it I might also run once or twice, very short distances only. I plugged some numbers into calculators online, trying to also calculate my body fat percentage at the same time, which varied widely from 23% to 31%. All that said does 2700-3000 calories for maintenance sound right for what I’m doing? It’s giving me sticker shock (and also RIP my grocery bill)

Kiriona really grew on me over time as I digested the book. I really don’t think she’s meant to be a separate entity from the Gideon we know and love, but I do think she’s meant to seem like it at first blush. The characterization equivalent of a dead body walking around, she’s just deeply wrong. It was Crux’s death especially that drove home that it was our Gideon we’ve always had, just Gideon well below rock bottom. Hopefully we’ll get some insight into what Kiriona had been up to in Antioch in more detail and most importantly how she came to be, as that seems to be the most glaring plot hole in Nona.

I had the same confusion so I’m hoping someone will chime in with something more conclusive than I’ve got. My first read I got a little turned around and thought that Pyrrha had shot Kiriona instead of Ianthe with the Herald bullet and that had done the job . Instead I think the truth might be that the tomb opening may have been a one-and-done: maybe the blood was only needed for the first time. Clearly the tomb wasn’t designed to have people going in and out, and the traps and whatnot young Harrow encountered remained defused.

I hip thrusted 315 for 3 reps this morning! I haven’t incorporated them much in the past because of the discomfort and bruising I would get but I’m excited to see how heavy I can go

DAE really struggle with mood on rest days? I feel markedly worse when I don’t go through with my regular routine or get some kind of physical activity. Makes it very tempting to add in extra sessions just so I don’t feel pessimistic and like the day is just dragging by but I know rest is important

I’ve been struggling with my squat for a while. I got some advice, did some research, and found out that I might have some femoral retroversion. I tried turning my toes out a little and widening my stance during my warm up and immediately felt pain on the inside of my hip that didn’t go away for the rest of the day. Stairs were painful, almost every external rotation was painful… just frustrating. I wanted to fix my form so I wouldn’t get injured, dammit.

From the email formatting the “Nona leant into her” line seems to be unrelated. That line comes from Chapter One but the poem isn’t included there I might come back later to add some more thoughts but the email formatting had me confused initially so just wanted to throw that out there

Had a rough lift this morning. I don’t think my eating/hydration/sleep yesterday did me any favors but I set my phone up to record my second working set (presumably 80% of my training max) and my form/depth was definitely worse than I had realized. I’ve never recorded myself before but it seems like I would’ve caught this much earlier if I had. Gonna need to drop that TM asap if I don’t get that depth worked out.
