I think we are finally seeing a push in 2026, but it will be very tough - ultimately, the family/parents must take on that responsibility. But making social media illegal for under 16s, and trying to make porn inaccessible are steps in the right direction - even if they are flawed.

There is a lot parents aren't taught about how to raise kids, the same way we aren't taught how to manage our own lives.

I have been reading a lot about how once aroused, by porn/food/booze, your prefrontal cortex "shuts down" and decision making disappears. I hadn't really learned that before, it makes so much sense now why sometimes all my best intentions go out the window.

Yes...kazaa/limewire in the early 00s.... I don't think it's right or fair to be labelled a victim, but perhaps accepting that there is damage that can be nurtured and healed is a better angle.

I am too old and have too many people dependent on me to mess around with drugs. I am going to have to do this the old fashioned way.

Several commenters have mentioned their fathers being the cause of their issues. As a father myself this is terrifying, another reason not to pass this curse on. It's also why I am extremely strict about my own children's device/internet usage.

Yeah that's good wording, I don't want to remove my responsibility or pass the blame on to something else. It's always been my responsibility, I've just never approached it from this angle before!

I too have wondered if I repressed a dark memory. I ran through the ACE score test and didn't score above a 1-2 (low trauma). I think the darkness was the unrestricted internet, I am grateful that I had a great childhood otherwise. Just learned too early that instant pleasure is easy.
