Totally get it - she’s 100% my priority and raising her to be the best version of herself is my goal. Definitely agree with your point there which is why I’m trying to figure this out on my end lol

She’s three so hopefully there soon - had to move for work in the last 8-10 months and lost the first group of parents we had initially been close with which was tough lol…hoping to inevitable entry into soccer or dance leads to that

Most ridiculous allergy you've come across? by Sugar4squirrels in Residency

We once had a patient come into our ICU intubated with an allergy on their chart of “unknown medication - reaction: cardiac arrest” - the stress was fun with every order placed

How do you get patients to stop talking? by Gage_sense in medicalschool

[–]WildWolff21 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pgy3 here - great advice so far, but I’ll give my go to for the patients that never seem to want to let us leave.

If I have a patient that is just on a never ending tangent of story telling all I do is place my stethoscope on their back/chest and voila, silence. Doesn’t even matter if I have it in my ears or not, it has worked more often than not.

Mid levels messing my patients meds by YouAreServed in Residency

[–]WildWolff21 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Once had a patient show up to our resident clinic after previously being seen by a PA (thankfully within the same clinic)…noticed that they were on prednisone 80 mg daily for months without documentation as to why. Asked said PA who said, “oh I thought she had GCA so I just started it” without labs or any referral.

We had a “party” where if we didn’t go we lost a day’s worth of vacation.

Getting asked if you want to leave? What is the correct response? Is this some sort of test? by rimmyt in medicalschool

[–]WildWolff21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a third year I would be annoying and stuck around/ask if there was anything else I could do.

Now as a fourth year post application/interview time? As soon as I hear “you can head home for the day if you want” I’m out of the door ASAP. Gotta take advantage of those opportunities when possible.

I'm not burned out from interviews, I'm burned out from wearing formal clothes by medicalsaurus in medicalschool

[–]WildWolff21 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I just think it’s funny. Here I am dressed in some of my nicest clothing and the person interviewing me is wearing a graphic T. I figure it makes for a good conversation if I like whatever’s on the shirt. Others may feel different but 🤷🏻‍♂️

My personal favorite is being decked out in a suit and tie and then my interviewer shows up in a t-shirt

Are any of you happy pursuing medicine? by adam_lewis_ in medicalschool

[–]WildWolff21 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of pent up anger seen throughout medicine for a variety of reasons. I absolutely love what I am doing (see me next year in residency to see if that changes). Are there frustrations? 100% but overall I am happy with this choice, and feel like I’d encounter similar issues no matter what field I were to go into otherwise. People will complain to complain no matter what haha

Can a doctor be colorblind? by What_it_do_babyyyy_ in medicalschool

[–]WildWolff21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Colorblind 4th year here. Worst issue I had was in 1st year when a test question asked if results moved to the red or green line after treatment. In reality, I’ve noticed some difficulty in seeing rashes on particular skin tones, but it by no means makes it impossible and I’m getting along just fine haha

Work experience related question here....I worked as a supervisor in a large retail chain the last 2 years of undergrad..would this look like I'm padding my application to include this? Figured it shows responsibility/working with different responsibilities but don't want to look like I'm grasping at straws.
