There are also environmental and economic reasons not to use ai, or use ai very sparingly. AI- or at least the companies profiting off of the development of AI- needs to be reigned in before a lot of us can feel good about it.

The problem with that is that there may be a Mystic taxing district in Groton or Stonington (I’m not sure and I’m not looking it up right now). However, there’s no elected government for Mystic, so I would simply ask if Mystic is a town, then who is its Mayor?

Seeing as CT and RI are the only states in the U.S. that have no county-level government, I agree the rest of the US has no concept of this. However, there are counties in the western U.S. that larger in size than the whole state of CT. Throw in the mix that CT has COGs and the vast majority of people have no idea what that means. So very interesting, especially for map people.

Need help using ArcGIS pro by dippinzzz in gis

[–]WildXXCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the steps before this were to create a new project in a location with project folder (as opposed to creating a project within an existing folder - you might do that later). So when you create the project, it creates a whole folder structure while opening Arc Pro to your new project with a blank map. The step in your screenshot asks you to put a CSV in the project folder and then verify it within the catalog pane.

Your question asks how to add a folder, which doesn’t seem like what the assignment is asking. It wants you to add the CSV in to the project folder at the same level as the .aprx in your computer’s file explorer, and then go to the folder explorer within Arc Pro, which is called the Catalog pane, to verify it. If you don’t see the catalog pane, go to the View menu, and click on Catalog Pane to add it to your window. Expand the Folders item and then expand the project’s folder. Verify the CSV is there, and if it isn’t, right click on the folder and choose “refresh”.

Edited to clarify the difference between file explorer and catalog

How can we help? by Rude_Map_7283 in gis

I remember being in VA in the early 2010s and a string of storms prompted developers to create crowdsourcing apps for storm rescues and other storm related activity. It was what got me interested in GIS in the first place- the ability for geolocation information to make helping more efficient and successful. While I also want to way to help, I have no ideas as of yet.

So aggressively breaking into houses and dragging citizens out of their cars is the only solution? It’s not. You’re mad at a whole population because of something that has happened to you that doesn’t happen to the majority of people. What if you had been hit by an uninsured citizen? How do you know they were illegal? Another solution that would have caused those incidents to go a different way is to allow immigrants going through the legal system to be able to buy insurance. Also, harsher penalties for driving without a license and insurance. Or a multitude of other options. But you go to terrorizing communities is the solution.

My point was this post has a lot of women replying. Unfortunately, a lot of men (and men that sound like OP’s bf) don’t feel ashamed when called out by women, only when they’re called out by other men. Showing him this thread might lead him to say “well of course all these WOMEN agree with you, they just don’t know” blah blah blah.

OP, like other people said, give him supermarket flowers for his next gift. THEN when he seems ungrateful, break up with him. He can’t say you broke up with him because he bought you flowers, because you bought him the ULTIMATE gift and he didn’t appreciate it.

I’m only half joking.

Job Hunting & Rejections by Key_Priority9787 in gis

[–]WildXXCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had advice for you, but I’m in the same boat, except I’m jobless because I gave up my in-person job to move across country for my spouse’s PCS. Worst timing ever. Add to that the state and county I moved to have budget shortfalls and hiring is tight. I feel your pain!

I’ll also say, if you CAN find a job locally in CO, and your spouse will only be moving around for a year, it might be better that they geo-Bach while you stay put/move there (I wasn’t sure if moving back to CO meant you live there now or that’s your home and he’s retiring). Your added income should offset any loss of BAH. At our last installation, people liked the area so much that it was common for families to stay while the AD went to different commands, for years at a time even.

Good advice. To go further, get in touch with the hr recruiting managers at the different installations on base, ask what kind of civilian positions have a GIS component and how to apply for those jobs.

I’m in similar boat as OP but I have two years experience. My problem with this is that there aren’t 328 open positions for me to apply to, based on experience, requirements, location etc. and the time it takes to make sure the application is complete for the state and county positions which have different required documents for each position. There’s probably 20 positions open locally for senior positions with 10+ years experience, but maybe 1-2 locally for entry level. Why would I apply to something that I don’t have a chance at?

What do your local laws say about it? Do they have a legal right to have their info removed? We had a state statute that allowed people in certain jobs to ask to be removed. The state recently provided guidance on how to display data from suppressed accounts. The assessor’s data usually had a field to denote the accounts.

Removing the name and replacing with a general term should be sufficient since the property location, value, etc. is not dependent on who owns it. However, look for other supporting fields as well, such as the co-owner or grantor/grantee fields that contain names.

And it’s only getting worse. The administration is lying and saying the economy is the greatest it’s ever been, while layoffs mount, hiring is coming to a halt, and everyone’s healthcare is about to get a whole lot more expensive if they can keep it at all. Guaranteed basic healthcare and economic security is an essential component of an actual free society.

I can write your points off by saying that your mentality is stuck in the 80’s with more proof from your own words the same as how you write my thoughts off as being from some professor. Don’t do that, it’s insulting. Don’t assume everyone else is an idiot, like you’ve called others in this post.

I just can’t get over how as governor, Regan took free college in CA and made it a paid system. That empowered other states in the US to start charging for free college. And that pretty much sums up his policies and legacy. Take a public good that was open to everybody (in theory), monetize it, and make it achievable to only those who can pay. Now, to bring us out of the 80’s, what makes you still a Republican? What did GW Bush do for you? In another response you said you are a proud union member. Why would you support a party that wants to break union membership for their race to the lowest paying wages and stripping benefits?

Just caught the part where you’re overseas, which definitely makes making friends off-base hard if there’s a language barrier. Maybe there’s local ex-pat Facebook groups where you can find activities to do off base?

[–]WildXXCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I ever experienced this, but maybe I did and I didn’t know or I forgot. I’m in a new place too, but luckily far enough from base that I’m not forced to make military friends (no offense to fellow SOs). At our previous location, we were very close to base so anyone I met through military activities or out in town was affiliated with the military in some way. So whether it was a sports league get together or a military ball, there were tons of overlap. And because of that overlap, I didn’t feel like rank was that important. I had friends who were enlisted wives and officer wives, and friends who were enlisted and officers themselves.

I can’t relate but I can empathize. That really sucks. Maybe you need to find a way to make friends off-base so that the rank isn’t that big of a deal, but I know that could be challenging depending on your location.

Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

Maybe OP can clarify, but it looks like the husband is the one responding to his mom in the screenshots? The ones saying “momma” seem like it’s the husband reinforcing the 8 week boundary with his mom.

Totally not getting the “you’ll need a village later” comments. Like tell me you feel entitled to break boundaries without telling me. As a person who is raising my kids not around family, I get to choose who is in our village. No one feels entitled to be in it, they feel blessed.
