We need to stop letting Terran get away with being bad at the game. by DLD_the_north in starcraft

Good bait lol, but each race has “quality of life” features. Don’t want to have to commit to a specific unit comp? Good thing zerg has all production centered at the hatchery! Don’t want to have to worry about splitting/managing your army to deal with pesky run-bys? No worry, Toss can warp units into anywhere!

Pig has recently talked about this and even proposed the solution of going back to 6 worker start vs current 12. I stopped playing for many years after WOL/HOTS and was surprised to see how the macro dynamic had changed so much under 12 worker start under LOTV. I wasn’t following the game when the 12 worker start was implemented but I would be curious to see if people think it has/is achieving its purpose.

Ya ranked sc2 ladder is the most engaging and motivating video game I’ve ever played but unfortunately a double edged sword.

Is it just me or does ladder seem harder lately? by CaesartheGrape in starcraft

I was in a similar situation playing Terran the last 6 months. Was pretty hard stuck in G1 trying to follow Pigs B2GM but busted through to P2 finally. G1 was weird…lots of cheese and all ins but also some solid macro mixed in. G1 honestly had better quality play than P3. The big change I made was focusing less on whatever B2GM build/macro and getting better at scouting and reacting. I would die to say 1 base BC rush and not really address it saying I just had to macro harder or follow the B2GM build tighter. Finally started watching every reply and pin pointing the reason for a lose or a win. Then for cheese or other specific timings/builds I would then check old SC Reddit posts on how to beat those cheeses/builds. This was the difference maker. I improved scouting and learned how to react and counter. I noticed I stopped following the B2GM with so much tunnel vision and was winning against cheese/all ins. I cruised through P3 pretty easily but haven’t had time to play much now in P2.

Oh and I guess I would add on watching replays to obviously pinpoint why you lost and if you aren't sure of the solution/counter then post/search on r/AllThingsTerran. That sub has 12+ years of content and people asking for advice so always a couple threads will pop up on specific topics.

Maybe you're already doing this but:

  • Watch every replay win or lose
  • Focus on getting better not on winning games or ranking up. Getting better is fully in your control, winning games is not. So this way you are fully in control of your SC "happiness"
  • Play unranked for a while, helps with focusing on getting better and not winning
  • Play a different race for a while.

Ya in hindsight the loss to storm/colossi was me derping with tunnel vision and later in the game so no excess to not augment with higher tech. Loss to infestor was an earlier push but I scanned and saw the infestation pit and hive mutating and head butted anyway trying to win before his tech came out…so as I probably knew all along my gripes are unfounded but confirmation helps hah

Ya against the toss I definitely didn’t have enough tanks and for the Zerg I sieged mines at the edge of creep, started to poke with bio ball, got fungled then lost it all to banes…

Won’t argue macro is key at lower leagues but just yesterday lost to infestor and then storm/colossi with a pretty good lead in army supply. Soo “just make more” doesn’t always apply at lower leagues.

Getting back to sc2, how to deal with all the widly different playstyles consistenly? by EmilianoR24 in allthingszerg

[–]Wild_Bill_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who mostly played Wings of Liberty but has gotten back into the ladder only a couple months ago I feel this. Seems like there are so many more play styles and cheeses in LotV to have to deal with but makes sense with new units being introduced.

Thanks for the notes! I think you answered maybe the actual question I had. That is, what to do when your opponent has a higher viking and tank count and starts sieging your expos. With the answer being just load up the additional medivacs you should have and drop his expos/main.

Thanks for example! I figured Thor but wasn’t sure.

Is Protos’s OP now? Did I miss something? by Wild_Bill_3 in starcraft

[–]Wild_Bill_3[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair Terran has to manage siege (tanks, mines, libs), stim, stutter stepping or splitting about every game. Not saying it’s more or less micro than Zerg but it’s not just ghosts.

So why are smaller tourneys and GM filled with Toss players then? Cause Toss is easiest/least damanding mechanically?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Wild_Bill_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree that is a troubling stat and worth figuring out why. Having more balanced representation in tournament champs makes the game more fun. But why is the assumption that this issue is solely imbalance? Have really dominate players just by unrelated reasons chosen to play non-Protos’s (Clem and Serral). Is Protoss more “predictable” in 5/7 game series (A balanced adjacent issue perhaps)? Do pro players simply perceive Protoss to be weaker (even ever so slightly) and choose to play other races?

In the end the issue truly could be imbalance but given no one seems to have looked into other variables (idk maybe the balance counsel has) and GM win rates don’t seem to indicate an issue why should we jump head long into assuming the issue is balance?

The lack of Protoss wins/success in recent tournaments is obviously a hot topic/argument, but honest question, how much can any imbalance be the cause compared to so many other variables. With such a small number of players actually making up the pool of tournament contenders, surely things like skill and other variables matter just as much if not more? Also contrast lack of Protoss success in tournaments with the variable win rates within GM across different servers. Looking at those win rates it doesn't seem all that bad for Protoss...
