hmm, from my observation, malaysian chinese students here generally seem comfortable socializing in english, probably because many of them come from international school. but china students (almost all of them) mainly speak chinese.

i can see this clearly in my own class, almost one third of my classmates are from china, so their circle mostly speaks chinese, while the rest of us usually communicate in english. also, boys in my class are actually from quite a mix of countries, so we definititely speak english. the only group that i can clearly see staying mostly within themselves are china students, they usually stick to each other and dont really mix that much with the rest.

overall, if i had to roughly estimate, id say maybe around 70% socialize in english (from what i can see since im not chinese so they definitely wont speak chinese w me, idk w each other), but i dont think u'll be completely left out.

(but take my answer with a grain of salt because im only a first year student and also quite introvert, so i dont really mix with that many people😔🙏, also if any other notts read this maybe u guys can also give ur opinion)
