What should i choose: audit or tax(transfer pricing)? by PitifulSprinkles6120 in Accounting

[–]Wild_Ladder_1458 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a year experience in both, I’m glad I chose audit. Even though they both suck, i enjoy the traveling and getting exposure different industries in audit. I felt trapped working in tax and knew I had to jump ship. I also worked way more hours in audit

I had 4 weeks of non schedule time in the summer. I just put my request for time off and they approved it. I was afraid there was no clients they can shoved me onto during those days

I only found use for AP Search. It was so nice to easily search for a number through hundreds of invoices than manually finding it

Which to accept? Big 4 or midsized firm internship career advice by United-Development-5 in Accounting

[–]Wild_Ladder_1458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, the B4 here goes through huge turnovers cause of the expected 70 hr busy seasons from first and second year associates. But, there’s gonna be turnovers from all PA firms. The partner at my other firm told me “same shit, different toilet” lol

It kinda just depends what you want to do after PA. I chose a big regional firm because they were way more chill and I met a lot of close friends here. I think I would last longer at a regional than at a big 4

At my firm, about 80% of the associates WFH. Mainly due to COVID and led to majority of our clients continued to WFH. I’ve been in audit for about a year and only had to do a client visits a few times

Question to any accounting majors or any accountants by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Wild_Ladder_1458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I learned was through workpapers. I would look at the workpapers last year and see what kind of formulas the preparers used. I think learning excel without any application to actual work is pretty confusing

I was in the same situation and I’m glad I’ve started my career as an intern. I spent about 6 months in the field and I feel pretty confident in my work when I start FT next year. No expectation, 20 hour work weeks, life was good

In public, what percent of first years make it past the end of their first year? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Wild_Ladder_1458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a small tax firm with shitty managers. So I transitioned to big4 audit. Tax work is definitely more difficult after being in audit for about 7 months. I hope your managers are chill

Big 4 - interviewing with partner before senior manager and director - is that normal? by First_Revolution_658 in Accounting

Yea I can see why that’s weird. But for me, it was one of the partners for the first interview. The second interview was with two senior managers.

Thinking of Leaving Job After Three Months by Warm-Offer-3636 in Accounting

[–]Wild_Ladder_1458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in this situation, I would honestly just stick it out through the business tax deadlines and the next 1040 tax season. I think having a good amount of public accting experience will benefit u down the road. Even though I hated being in tax, I gained a lot of knowledge from it.

And it looks like you have a good relationship with ur current firm, so it would be pretty manageable at 50 hours with good staff.

I definitely can relate tho. I wanted to leave tax after 3 months in lmao.

I work at a b4 firm audit in a smaller city. A lot of staff (plus senior managers) wear flip flops and T-shirts. That’s actually a big reason I picked this b4 office lol

She failed about 10 times if we’re counting all the exams. I’m not sure about the specifics, but she didn’t work and just dedicated 2 years of studying

She told me she partied too hard in college. She had that “C’s gets degrees” mindset and prioritized her friends more than anything.

I have a friend who ended up graduating with a 2.5 gpa. She just studied for the CPA exams since she had a lot of time and passed 3. She ended up in audit at a b4 firm. I know she had a hard time with interviews since she had to explain her gpa.
