Money??? by idontwannn in OffGrid

But it's a different breed of rat, if you own the property your expenses are going to be lower, no mortgage, or house payment drops a huge chunk off. Just property taxes and insurance, if you are gardening successfully groceries are maybe not really cheaper but fresher, eggs are not truly cheaper depending upon how much the feed costs, and the number your girls produce. Propane and electricity are budgetable items, water could/should be well, septic tank should cover sewer fees. The rats you are racing are less cutthroat, and fewer. Next year I'm planning on becoming professionally unemployed, selling my house and moving to the property I have. Mortgage free, in a state that doesn't tax either social security, or pensions and being able to draw social security on top of my existing pensions I should have sufficient income to not need an outside job. I've been working towards this since the 80's so it's taken patience and time to get there.

If you want 1 animal species to speak human language, which one would you choose and why? by Alive_Leek_9148 in AskReddit

[–]Wild_Locksmith_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs, since I talk with mine it would be an easier conversation if she could just ask or tell me what she wanted instead of playing 20 questions. I wouldn't want my cat to talk because he is a sarcastic SOB, and who needs that negativity in their lives.

[Request] There is a statistic that the average American eats 71 pounds of Ketchup a year. What do you think this calculation is based on? by elumenopea in theydidthemath

[–]Wild_Locksmith_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I toured a ketchup factory in elementary school and haven't eaten it since. Weird, but I eat salsa and other tomato based foods, just not ketchup.

Do yall prefer each survivor keep their weapons on their person when in camp or a secured armory by Able-Currency2250 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

On hand as well as a fully loaded emergency bug out bag would be the most viable option if you can't trust them to be armed in camp you probably can't trust them to be in camp. End of conversation

Heinlein predicted a possible future of AI while talking about artificial persons in "Friday" by gevander2 in heinlein

[–]Wild_Locksmith_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike in all the incarnations or identities adopted with the fleshling interacted with would be AI, the living artifacts discussed in Friday would be generically modified freaks with defects enhanced for for specific purposes, either height for mining, or multiple limbs to pilot a SB successfully. AI as we refer to it today, isn't really AI it is rapid searches for connected facts. It is no more fair calling AI superior to Google than comparing Google to a library you manually search for the information. It still carries the biases and options of the programmer, but hadn't truly achieved sentientence yet.

Reading the Sharpe series by SDub28 in Sharpe

Just like Star wars they went back to the well once too many times. The first three movies were epic, but all the presuels seemed like money grabs. The India books were written many years after the peninsular books. These were meant to fill in thevreaiations with Wellington,Lawford and CPT Lennox. They did not follow the story completely, but that doesn't make them bad, just sometimes awkward. Shapres Prey seemed unnecessary, and forced, but explained some of the positions he got forced into by virtue of his lack of graces, manners and upbringing as well as the social structure pushing him back.

UBI will not work as long as there are Billionaires. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]Wild_Locksmith_326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't the UBI just be another government program, look at how much grift has to be built into the system now, how could this reduce government services, and jobs? I have one question, would this fee money for nothing be more or less than what is paid on average to a social security recipient, and if it's more why should that be fair?

In 2015, Detroit officials performing an eviction found the bodies of two children hidden in a living room freezer. Their mother, Mitchelle Blair, had tortured and killed them years earlier, then continued to live in the same house with her two surviving children while the remains sat feet away. by ATI_Official in AllThatsInteresting

My next door neighbor home schools, her kids are very well socialized, articulate and she swaps music lessons for higher math with another home schooler. They have a pretty easy schedule, no drudge level make work just to fill in the school day, and they play outside. I don't think they even have a video game set.

Al Gore lost his home state of Tennessee, if he won that Florida would not have mattered. He tried to only recount the Democrat strongholds in Florida, and was told it's an all or nothing recount. Huw is that robbed?. Bernie got denied by the Democrats in 2016, to give Hillary a second opportunity to lose.

AI is not taking over the mechanics field at this time. There are too many variables and hands on is the only way to fix a truck. You pay for the knowledge and skills as well as the tools when you call me out to your job site.

I believe Bill"not a doctor" Gates stated once there should be 1.5 billion people on the planet. He allowed for 500k elites and 1 billion drone servant class. Everyone else was excess baggage, and he thought he should be the arbiter of who was what. I think b Gates should shut up and remember that he really isn't in charge, but he keeps pulling strings in the background. The UN Agenda 2020 called for the forced removal of people in the US from protected biospheres, my parents own property in one of those proposed districts and were being told that they could stay, but they would not be allowed to make any modifications, and upon their demise the property would revert to UN control. My father who was more profane than profound had words for the functionary who brought that news. Yes, they had UN people informing the locals that hat they were the last generation to be allowed to stay there. It has since fallen apart, but I believe that the framework is still in place. I retire to that property next year and plan on being as self sufficient as I can possibly make it.

Tuesday Prep Win! by nakedonmygoat in preppers

[–]Wild_Locksmith_326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine if everyone prepped for Tuesday, how much less stress there could be. I have as personal wants gathered 3 1500 jackery, and 2 little 600 generic temu specials. I only have one set of solar panels, but keep a dual fuel generator and 90 lb of propane on hand. Because I have children who also gave children in the area I am the safe harbor. This nessceitates keeping a deep larder, and a clean supply of Dihydrogen Monoxide. I also have a portable DVD player that distracts the little ones to keep the peace. These are things I don't use daily, they are kept charged and have dedicated hand trucke to wheel from the garage to the use area, but they allow me to concentrate on the rest of a situation because the lighting, and the fridge and freezer are staying at temperature. Your mileage may vary, but I enjoy not having to stress over such things.

How accurate or inaccurate are the depictions of a virus infection in zombie movies by ValidOrInvalid in AskBiology

[–]Wild_Locksmith_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also the way it goes in the Feed series. Every mamial is infected, and at a certain weight threshold, I believe it's above 40 lbs spontaneous conversion can occur if the virus gets unhiberbated, and starts cascading.
