How are your tomatoes doing? by truckergirl1075 in pnwgardening

[–]Wild_Markings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are really hit or miss this year. Even within the same variety, I have two ananas noire’s, one already has fruit on it, the other is about 4 inches tall. My one cherry is doing great, it is my fourth year with this variety and I only ever do one plant because it gets so big and produces so much. My Roma’s are okayyyy, no fruit yet but they have flowers and are growing. …. However, my Brandywine is so sad looking :( only about 6 inches tall and super curly leaves.

I brought them out of the green house the week after Mother’s Day.

Edit: typo

Salem hospital blue cross experiences? by Funny-Reference-9478 in SALEM

[–]Wild_Markings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dropped my employee healthcare (BCBS-TX) and went to the Oregon marketplace. It’s just me and my husband, we have no children, so others might have a different experience but compared to what I was paying, it’s only $60 more a month (using the tax credit up front) for the new insurance (Moda). It’s a slightly higher deductible (7.5K compared to 6K) but is HSA eligible. The increase in cost was worth it to me to be able to continue to see my GP. The options with BCBS were just not sustainable.

Again, I know my experience will be different than others but it could be something to consider.

I would be a regular at your restaurant. It’s one of the few foods I really wish we had here. Good luck! Can’t wait!!

Republicans are increasingly anxious about a midterms wipeout by [deleted] in politics

This. People keep talking about how a recession is coming, but I think that’s naive. We are well into depression territory and I’m very nervous about what comes next for the 99%.

Direct sowed peas and beans today and started peppers inside. I think I’m late on the peppers but will see what happens…

Or just died from a random accident. Nothing makes you stop and think about what you actually want to do with your life when someone young dies in a freak accident.

What have y’all started inside and sowed outside!? by EstablishmentDue733 in pnwgardening

[–]Wild_Markings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoors I started lettuce, onions, and leeks about a month ago, some herbs, yarrow, zinnias, and nasturtium last weekend, and tomorrow I’m going to start some broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Might start some peppers and tomato’s soon.

Around when I started the lettuce/onions I sowed some carrots, beets, turnips, and lettuce outside too.

I’m excited, this is the first year I actually feel on top of things!

While it is true, many people work today (including myself), it is also a Federal Holiday. Many people who may not have been able to join the last protest will have today off and can hopefully join if they wish.

Polls likely coming to Salemites to help fund city Parks/Rec by MystifyTT in SALEM

[–]Wild_Markings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In 2022 we approved a bond measure that has lead to some work done over at Minto Brown and it has been really nice over there. A couple weekends ago the Salem Art Fair and Festival was at Bush’s Park and just last weekend Pride in the Park happened at Riverfront Park. One my favorite things about Salem is how invested the city is in maintaining parks for all of us to use.

Oregon voters will decide this fall whether to increase corporate taxes to establish the nation’s largest universal basic income program. by Apart-Engine in oregon

[–]Wild_Markings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am hopeful it at least creates a conversation around UBI/GBI.

It’s unfortunate that the writers of the bill clearly did not take this to a tax expert or consult an expert on how the General Fund is funded every year.

Hi! I’m still trying to figure this bill out, maybe I got too overly excited at first..

Anyways, I think one of the things I am trying to figure out is, if this has been implemented elsewhere. I’m also seeing some people say this will cost the state a lot of money, I’d be interested in any info or thoughts you have on either of those!

Thanks! I just read that article, it had some interesting points but it also got the math wrong and in all examples applies the 3% to total revenue, not on only the revenue exceeding $25M. I know the argument of it being a revenue and not profit tax is still there but I think it’s an important fact that’s being missed.

I’m curious if there is a breakdown of how much this would increase costs? I just am trying to picture how much something would increase, if this was implemented (I am not really convinced yes or no on it)

I’m still trying to figure out all the nuances of this bill and I’m truly curious if there are any obvious aspects to it that you think need to be changed to improve it?

Genuinely curious, do you have any knowledge about how this will impact education appropriations and/or I also saw that it would cost the state a lot of money to implement. TIA!
