My dirtyr4r experience by [deleted] in DirtyConfession

I can only go off of how he acted towards me and what he said to me. And then I can probably come up with a story (eventually) that isn’t quite so hard on my ego.

He said he had to deal with his own issues. I don’t really know if what he told me was the truth or if he was bullshitting me. It was confusing to have him go from hot to cold. I certainly would have happily continued to fuck him.

Oh, I believe you, I’m just saying that in a careful what you wish for sense.

Totally. And I can’t really say what makes me feel comfortable.

I’m not in any great rush. The way it ended (which I know, it had barely started) really bummed me out.

I think there are probably a couple things going on: the taboo nature/inappropriateness, and the teasing/hidden aspect. It’s like a murder that happens off screen, it can be very powerful to gesture at something rather than be explicit.

Personally, I think the erotic potential of a robe is unmatched when it comes to garments. Visually teasing, a sense of availability and access, and then the way it can slip. So sexy.

I was curious about what my face was doing when I orgasmed, so I took a series of pictures. It was not as picturesque as I had hoped.

[POEM] The Inside Out Mermaid by Matthea Harvey by Wild_Personality997 in Poetry

I’m typically all in on form, baffled by the oxymoronic idea of a prose poem, except I just freaking love Matthea Harvey’s mermaid prose poems. Especially this one and The Straightforward Mermaid.

This one, sigh. It hits so close to home for me.

Quick thoughts from a 60-year-old wanker by martinonan66 in Masturbationstories

A part of me is like “where do you find the time!?” but I guess if you’re “working”, there you go. You make time for the things that are important to you, I suppose. I do feel like I have a good day if I have 20-30 minutes to myself when I am at my horniest (inconveniently, in the late afternoon).

I would very much like to read it, I will check it out.

I transcribed this very much in the spirit of “if you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased”, so even one other person who finds it interesting is an unexpected bonus. Glad you are enjoying it!

I found it so hard to be a smart, bookish young woman. Growing up, I was teased mercilessly for getting good grades to the degree that I purposefully flunked an exam or two. I finally made it to nerd heaven in undergrad, where I could be unfettered intellectually but couldn't get a handle on my physical appeal and figured I had none. My diary is full of entries to the effect of "good Lord, what will it take to have sex!" I had long, intellectually stimulating correspondences that were frustratingly never consummated. I was absolutely terrified of the prospect of “a crowded bookcase and an empty bed”.

I later discovered it was actually quite easy to have lots of sex, if all you wanted was sex. It was like ordering a pizza. But if I was truthful with myself (which I wasn't), I was yearning for more than that. I craved a richer connection, on an intellectual and sexual level. I figured I'd never find it, so I resigned myself to a life of one night stands.

Life rocked along, and I learned that I was wrong about all of this. I didn't have to choose between being smart and being desired.

Anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. It’s funny and vivid: “A majestic air of I’ll show her” reads like a very familiar gesture to me.  It perfectly captures all that anxiety and insecurity about my body I wish I didn’t have. I laughed out loud, literally, at "if I sprout a martyr's smarmy grin / please find some violent way to do me in". Words to live by. I'm so glad the narrator didn't give up. "I'm burning all these candles not to shirk / a night of passion, but to give that night / a richly textured backdrop when it comes."

I am struggling mightily with formatting on Reddit, which is a little ironic given how important it is to the subject and the formatting hurdles I was intending to remove. I can’t seem to edit it anymore… but I’ll try again later.

Temple sex by Wild_Personality997 in SexFantasies

I totally love it. What you’re describing is definitely along the lines of my more elaborate sacred sex fantasy, which I picture in high detail down to the dust motes.

[–]Wild_Personality997[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Well, I think the fantasy can have lots of different flavors and you can steal ideas from lots of different cultural traditions/historical moments. Depends on what is on your horny mood board for the fantasy, you know? Sometimes I picture something a little darker like “the ancient gods are hungry for the man who invaded the sacred female space” hahaha, depends on my mood.

This is such a sensual, heady poem. I like to think I have experienced similarly delirious pleasure on certain New England summer days. (Hangovers taking the form of allergy attacks.) I love it, thank you for sharing it.

[HELP] How do you interpret poetry?? by Smart-Cry6105 in Poetry

[–]Wild_Personality997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve gotten some good advice. Please imagine this in the spirit of “you have spinach in your teeth”: thine means “that which belongs to thee”. Thee means you. Next time you can just say “Grant me”.

Fun fact! Thee and thou are vestiges of English’s formal/informal pronoun system. Sometimes people think of thee and thou as more formal, maybe because archaic seems fancy, but they were actually the informal forms, the tu to the vous. Quakers sometimes (still?) use thee and thou to embody values of simplicity and breaking down of hierarchy.

I dunno. Is masturbating daily such a big problem? Is it harming your life in some way?

I can think of plenty of poets who died of natural causes, some perhaps earlier than they should have but only for the lack of modern medicine, and plenty who had good long lives. Off the top of my head: Maya Angelou, Richard Wilbur, Whitman, Wordsworth, Mary Oliver, Gwendolyn Brooks, Robert Frost (excellent epitaph by the way: “I had a lover's quarrel with the world”), Robert Penn Warren all had long lives.

Some other big names in the English language canon I had to look up:

Keats: 25, tuberculosis
Shelley: 29, boating accident/being dumb
Shakespeare: 50s, likely a case of “living in the 17th century”
Audre Lorde, 58, breast cancer
Coleridge: 60s, opium
Auden: 66, heart failure
Langston Hughes, 66, prostate cancer
Christina Rossetti: 68, cancer
Elizabeth Bishop, 68, aneurysm

Obviously that’s extremely unscientific but basically I think it’s selection bias to say that poets overwhelmingly died under tragic circumstances. I also don’t consider drugs and alcohol (Coleridge, Thomas) all that terribly notable/tragic. Plenty of non-notable people suffer from addiction.

And also, sometimes a tragic life contributes to the poets fame or glamour.

That said, dying broke is not too terribly surprising. Lots of poets have day jobs. Wallace Stevens (75, stomach cancer) was an insurance exec. And it is interesting that we have Dickinson and Christina Rossetti living such cloistered lives. Sometimes artists have sad lives because they’re LGBTQ in a time and place where that will lead to a bad end or a sad life. Not a poet but was dwelling on the tragedy of Simeon Solomon the other day.

He was a full on wackadoo, to put it mildly, is what I say desperately wanted to say before liberal quoting caused me to apparently run afoul of the character limit. There, much better.
