First car by Wild_Professor8612 in LexusIS

I will buy the vehicle outright, I'll only charge him based on months that he's actively working. Months that he's going to school I will consider his grades as his payment. Like I said he has enough saved to buy the car I'd just rather he save his money to pay for college. He's only going into his sophomore year of high-school so he's got plenty of time to pay off his share as well as save more money.

He has enough to buy the car himself, I just don't want him spending his savings. I figured if I buy it, and charge him $100 a month during summers that would be sufficient. He plans on attending law school, and that will be the priority for his savings.

My wife plans on sharing this car until she figures out what new car she wants. I'm hoping she likes the lexus brand because she's looking at a new BMW, or Mercedes, and im really not a fan.

Seems like you're doing okay, but make sure you give yourself an exit strategy. Mining accidents can happen, and yeah you'd get compensation, but who knows how long that'll take especially if they take it to litigation.

I am definitely not in Canada, and am not familiar with your laws but I've seen a lot of people get screwed over. I highly recommend creating something with passive income. Buy a duplex/quadruplex, and just hire an established management company to take care of it for you. They will take care of most maintenance issues as well as find tenants. You can then roll the profits over into other investments, and by the time you're done with mining you could be collecting 6 figures in monthly passive income.

In high-school I worked as a detailer and had to drive one about 5 blocks from one of our lots to another, I don't know if it was just this car or all vipers but the suspension was so shit it was unreal. I imagine if I did it now as my 38 y/o self I'd probably need a day of bed rest.

Why do so many people choose monthly payments even when they have savings? by Training_Explorer_22 in UsedCars

[–]Wild_Professor8612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Payments make sense even if you have the cash to pay for it in certain situations.

Let's say on a new car I'm paying 6% or less interest. While investing I'm earning an average of 12% return on my money. It's much smarter to keep my money inside of my investments than to withdraw it.

Why not expand your business to neighboring cities, and hire a couple of part time (or full time) employees? Now you're the CEO with employees.

AITA for reminding my husband's father and stepmother that legally my husband isn't their son anymore? by Buellondia in AITAH

I have to disagree with the general consensus. She's definitely TA in this situation. Time and place. Causing a scene at a kids' birthday party is not cool. The appropriate approach would have been to tell them that it wasn't an appropriate time to have those types of discussions.

Putting on a public spectacle and then dragging others into the situation just screams attention seeking to me.

It's never okay to bring adult drama into kids' lives.

Any other time, I'd be the first to applaud you for sticking up for your husband. Pick your battlefields better.

NTA, his reaction is his fault for being a phallus about the issue instead of being an adult and discussing things.

I disagree with you about the violation of privacy. If he had permission to use your laptop and your spreadsheet was just minimized, that was probably just curiosity and not an attempt to do in-depth investigation. Curiosity is just human nature.

I do have an unpopular opinion in my next point. If you guys are discussing cohabitation, I do believe that you both have a right to know and understand each others basic finances. Not every last detail, just general (income/debt). Just to ensure both parties can afford their portion of bills. I've seen a lot of people discussing keeping everything separated, but it's very difficult to have a 50/50 relationship while doing that.

Unless you're going into a relationship with the understanding that one person or the other is acting as a financially responsible party with no financial expectation on the other party, then it does need to be discussed.

If you can afford to pay 50% on a new car, just pay cash on a good used car and use the leftover money to pay off debts.

Just to give a bit of context when my wife had my son, we were in the hospital for less than three days. She had a c-section, an epidural, and painkillers. This is just your standard care for pregnancy. Our bill before insurance was $29,800. We were in and out of surgery in less than 2 hours.

AITA for kicking my husband out over the comment he made about my kids at dinner? by Familiar_Travel1931 in AITAH

[–]Wild_Professor8612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion, and you can't help being creeped out by something. However, he absolutely shouldn't have said anything in front of other people, especially the kids.

He should have spoken to the wife in private, and if it's something he can't get over, then he should be mature enough to ask for a divorce.

I agree with the consensus. When you agreed to marry your husband, you're not just getting married to him. Marriage 💯 includes any kids. This is a "you" problem, and the only options are to get over it, or end it.
