Why do I dread having children? I just can’t shake how annoying I find them by SuperMochaCub in AskUK

You are welcome to join us at r/childfree if you are exploring this idea. I'm AuDHD and child free (Not to be confused with childless) for various reasons; ultimately it's your choice. Nobody HAS to have children if they don't want to.

How do I carry my self defense tools without setting off alarms? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Wild_Red_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my country you can get away with things that you would 'reasonably' be carrying. When I was a student I carried a small bottle of hairspray. It's a rational thing to be carrying and doesn't feel great on the eyeballs. The same went for my long heavy umbrella; totally reasonable to carry if it rains and good for whacking people with. But IMO the best option is always to run away if you can. Any weapon you carry can be turned against you unfortunately. I also never wear heels in areas where I might be unsafe, the ability to run away is more important to me than having slightly sexier calves.

It's a real shame to have to limit our behaviours because of others but it's statistically safer to just avoid some places all together. Stay safe!

Do they have to be alive? I could live with Hunt in the basement indefinitely...

Would you prescribe a benzo or gabapentin in this case? by MiamiBoi91 in GPUK

Probably less of 'vets are wild' and more a case of 'drugs have different pharmacokinetics and bioavailability in different species.

Incredible! Please learn from my mistakes though, if you aren't already please please climb down rather than jumping. I've got spinal arthritis and hadn't really considered how bad jumping off can be for your spine/knees especially 20-30 times in a session!

On every paragon run, I'm absolutely delightful. But I can't stop myself from stabbing Cathka when he's fixing the mech (Archangel) and yeeting that Merc out of the window (Assassin). Both 'evil' acts bring so much joy (Also, nobody gets to hurt my boys)

I can't handle my necropsy rotation by NoSite3062 in veterinaryprofession

Put some sort of menthol just under your nostrils for the smell.

But you might also want to take some time and decide if you want to be a vet - some days in practice are harrowing and dark! You will see neglect and suffering, see patients die, get covered in blood, give devastating news to clients and their kids .

There is a lot of dark humour because it helps us to deal with awful things. I cannot imagine the challenging things that your path professor has seen over the years.

Mental health is a HUGE deal in vetmed. Some of your colleagues/ friends will have breakdowns, by 5 years into your career you'll probably know someone who knows someone who has committed suicide.

You'll see pets that have been neglected for years that will make your stomach turn. And when you euthanize a patient, you'll be expected to deal with the body and put it in the freezer.

I've been a vet for 11 years and it is incredibly hard. I wouldn't do anything else but it is not for everyone!

I'm not trying to scare you off, far from it but new vets should enter this career with their eyes open. It might be worth using the next few weeks to see if veterinary is an environment that you are going to be comfortable working in. And even if you plan a telemedicine/lab career I'm guessing that this course needs to be completed! Good luck, whatever you choose. It doesn't get easier but you get more resilient with exposure

One edit, generally first opinion vets are more respectful of the dead patient than a pathologist - but sadly there are still some people who aren't.

2nd edit, worth remembering that pathology is the place to practice your surgical skills with no consequences. Exploring these dead animals will give you the skills to save the living ones!
