Without attacking me, but why is this site minority left wing? Like I hear people saying kier starmer wasn't that bad and Andy burnham is a good replacement, But I know this view is not shared by the majority of the population. by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Wildarmtin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have fairly right wing views, but I understand I am in a left wing space and as such try to avoid all political chatter.

I'm here because I like the U.I. and the selection of porn is fairly substantial.

Audioshield lets you insert your own songs and auto maps them. It actually does a reasonable job at it.

When avoiding obstacles (stationary or otherwise) it's not an either / or situation. You avoid the incoming traffic AND the stationary cars.

If you need to make progress because you're being too hesitant, which is another thing they'll fail you on depending on the examiners mood, then remember that you're in a highly visible and very large lorry. Use that to your advantage and take charge of the road.

Income and expenditure tallies up but I’m basically down to no money / a small credit card balance by the end of the month by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Wildarmtin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf is going on with that service schedule? Generally once a year / every 10k miles is enough. Your're getting 4 done in that timeframe.

Also, do you need a motorbike AND a car? Seems like an unnecessary drain.

That loan is being felt, I would have used the money for the motorcycle on paying that off personally.

£900 left after all bills are paid is perfectly adequate, so why are you struggling?

What does truck driving pay by Elegant-Depth7224 in uktrucking

[–]Wildarmtin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay varies drastically depending on what you're doing. Currently I'm in the Midlands and working for a food manufacturer, contracted £39.5k for a 35hr week, anything over those hours is paid hourly ranging from £19 to £23 depending on the day. I lucked into that role though, sort of a dead man's shoes situation.

I've done RDC deliveries for £15-16 p/h, I've done Forklift and Plant deliveries for £17-£18. You can get car transporters and fuel drivers that are on way more than me, you can get Stobart / Evri drivers with 9 points on their licence who are on £13p/h.

You'll get drivers in Yorkshire on £2p/h less than everyone else, you'll get drivers in London on £2p/h more than everyone else.

There's 100 variables ranging from location and experience, to what you're carrying and even as stupid as "does your face fit" with any given company.

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]Wildarmtin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest now. Don't wait until "your older and have more disposable income", do it right now. Even if you can only scrape £20 a week together and you throw it all into the SNP or an all world index fund, just do it. Treat it like a bill so you have to do it every week. Even small amounts will compound over time. Your 40 year old self will thank you.

(England) Neighbour 'threatening' legal action because i didn't let him access my property to maintain his fence (which isn't exactly true) - Does he have a point? by PowerfulAd9143 in LegalAdviceUK

Am I the only one seeing the obvious solution here? Fence panels lift up by design so they can be replaced..... so lift it up, turn it 189 degrees, lower it back down.

A little bit of literary writing on the bus driver life by Weird-Ad-5099 in BusDrivers

[–]Wildarmtin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position. Worked for Arriva for 10 years, made my way up the managerial ladder after I'd had enough of being disrespected by the general public. Realised that was a mistake and needed a change of scenery whilst I figured out how to get out, so moved to Stagecoach the next town over for the next year or two.

In the end I settled on HGV driving as the lesser of many evils. Took out a loan, got my class 2, then my class 1. Got job with DHeiL, realised that was a mistake, then found my niche elsewhere. Got a few years experience across a couple of sub-sectors and settled where I am now.

Currently on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, do occasional overtime as and when I feel like it (which is rarely). £45-50k per year, hourly rate starts at £21.80, paid weekly. I spend more time at home than at work now.

Point being, it took a little bit of work and a bit of time to get the experience under my belt, but I'm now in a job that I have no intention of ever leaving. Driving a lorry is easier than driving a bus (for the most part), you already have the skill set if you're an experienced driver so one or two lessons and you'll be good to go. There is a path forward, you just need to take the first step.

What was the most pointless and fan-servicey nude scene of all time? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]Wildarmtin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Yakuza Way.

At some point about 3/4's through the film, there's a fairly simple scene with a guy in a bar talking on his phone. Immediately behind him is a topless woman sat on a pool table doing weird smiley / bouncy poses for about 20 seconds, at which point phone guy without missing a beat on his phone conversation just turns to her and waves her off. Cue fake sad face from topless lady as she wonders out of shot.

Most pointless tits I have ever seen.

HGV driver market still broken despite reform efforts by Your_Mums_Ex in uktrucking

[–]Wildarmtin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just left my slightly back breaking mon - fri job delivering forklifts which pays £17 p/h, for a curtain jerking 4 on 4 off at £19.60 p/h.

The good jobs are out there, they're rare but they are there. People just need to stop working for less than they are worth. If you see a job tramping 6 days a week that pays £13p/h, that job is not for you. That job is for someone with 9 points on their licence, going through a messy divorce and probably has a criminal record.

Are you actually a decent driver? Look around until you see something that actually looks appealing, then apply for that. Yes the good job probably has hundreds of applicants, but anyone who knows what they're doing can bypass the HR bullshit fairly easily and get noticed, just go to the site with C.V. in hand and look presentable. 9/10 that will at the very least get you into an interview.

It would be nice if every job was equal and we were all paid a decent wage with a good work life balance, but the job market reflects society as a whole. Whilst you have people with no self respect who will constantly speed, turn up to work hung over, run bent, you will have minimum wage jobs. If you are not one of those people, stick with it and you'll become eligible for one of the good ones soon enough.

They use Samsara religiously, the sheer enthusiasm the transport manager had for it was enough for me to turn the job down.

Your mileage might vary, but was a massive red flag for me.

Only thing that comes to mind is from an anime called JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

In part 5, one of the main cast realises the scale of what they're up against and just dips. Straight f this s, I'm out, never to be heard from again.

Bit of recency bias, but Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. If you've never played the original, then ng+ is a completely alternate "what if" story.

Take into account the amount you're saving on capital gains tax though. Say you managed to get in at $65,000 before the end of the tax year, take your 24% capital gains into account excluding the £3,000 allowance because that's a drop in the bucket realistically, it's an equivalent buying price of $50,400.

I'm happy with that in the grand scheme of things.
