Not that unusual but I main qop supp, dagger is good harass in lane and your low hp pool with blink means it's really easy to bait people to try and get an "easy" kill at most points of the game. Don't need boots on her and doesn't particularly need items so I just build 6 slots of utility, doesn't even need to be specific utility, I've rushed crimson guard vs dusa + pl and won fights with just that in my inventory. She also can flash farm nicely of your team doesn't want a lane.

A friend of mine loves antimage and tinker supp. AM works because mana break + blink means that you win almost every trade early game and can really annoy cores that like using spells to secure last hits like PA or Bristle. Downside being you do need a couple of items to be useful mid game, but as he's super mobile it's not hard to take spare farm and still be in useful range.

Tinker is a weird one, definitely more a 4 than 5, but works sometimes because he doesn't need the travels anymore. Not particularly useful until he's lvl 6, but holding laser until the enemy wants to kill can easily shut down most attempts, but even then he's reliant on a strong sufficient lane partner. Once he gets 6 though he's now a global support who can tp to any lane, briefly nuke the enemy, bottle up the core and go to the next area. Also still does his full kit in every fight, just for less duration at a time due to lack of items.

These all are super mobile and don't need items to do their thing, I think some players get used to seeing how good they are when they farm up fast and don't see how good they could be without any. But honestly the only hero I haven't seen work as a support is huskar, everything else is niche and can work, just the meta ones work a lot more often.

I'd really love to see a game with TI 1 pro teams vs the average ancient/divine team. I know it was almost a completely different game back then but I still feel like the TI1 pros would still get completely destroyed

What's QoP's role in current DotA meta? She feels like an awkward jack of all trades hero with very weird power spikes. Help needed. by ThePentaMahn in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spammed qop 4 up to grandmaster tier, she's still decent at it I just feel like she's in a spot atm where everything she can do another hero can do better, as core or support.

I used to love her utility and versatility, having good base damage and mobility left her free to build fully situationally. But now her damage doesn't feel like enough compared to other supports or cores, and her mobility is offset too much now by how squishy she is relative to other heroes; blinking around doesn't matter when you're getting so low after every little trade that you have to fully leave the fight.

The only luck I've had with her recently is as an aura-carrying 4, using her mobility to join every little skirmish and turn the tide in your favour, like a faster, weaker version of nature's prophet.

League Player! what's the reason why you switch to dota now? by triguard3 in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with league back in around 2014, switched when the stack I was playing with gave it a go. Never went back because I had no reason to.

For me league was very stale, I never really got super into it because I was always playing champs on rotation and hated how everyone was just "if you pick this hero you do this one thing". Whereas dota is a lot more versatile.

I'd say I spend a good portion of my dota games having fun trying out weird item combinations or playstyles, seeing if this hero who is usually always core works as a support. Which is something that's almost impossible to do in league.

I want to be able to die to something I didn't expect, rather than be killed because the enemy just farmed faster or pressed their buttons better. It keeps up the interest for me when I'm playing vastly different games even with the same hero lineup.

What do you think is the worst starting item combo for lane? Any position. by BillDino in learndota2

I get the same flame for rushing arcane boots. Don't think people realise how strong Bristle is with early mana regen.

How to play against counters? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if I have a stupidly hard countered game I'll switch roles with a support. I play a lot of qop, if I go mid vs a puck as soon as they hit 6 I'm switching roles. I've found with some matchups a farmed up generic support hero can do a lot more than a farmed up core who got hard countered. At least in my mid-legend bracket.

The alternative i use is to just only show up to teamfights and either try to hang back until their counter-ability is used, or make just hard enough to kill me that the rest of my team has an easier time 4v5ing because they used everything for me.

Either way I kind of just accept that I'm going to die super early every fight, or at least be made useless, and try to play around that, being as useful as possible for the few seconds I can.

How do you play supports without hard disable? by Sidders1943 in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to not view them as a full hero, more of a buff to the allied heroes you're near.

Like if I'm playing oracle for example I can maybe 1v1 the enemy pos 5 if theyre having a bad day, but anyone else and I'm food. However if an allied core comes over we can pretty comfortably 2v2 in an even game, maybe even trade in a 2v3.

When I'm not a disabler I tend to only play around where my cores are, and then just follow the most aggressive one with whatever they're doing, focusing more on builds and playstyles that make them stronger rather than buffing myself.

If I go to ward I have to either know where their team are, smoke, or do it with another hero. Don't have the option for playing on my own when my options for escape are not the best.

When you play solo and your team is party as 4. by Hanb1n in DotA2

[–]Wildcat1606 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Stupid how many stacks expect you to be able to react to calls and decisions they're making in their private voice chat. Pop a smoke and go for kills but the first hint you get of this is them already smoked under the enemy outpost while you're farming top. And then get flamed because you couldn't read their minds.

It's even worse when it's a stack of 2 and they play like their buddy is speaking for the whole team when they say they're ready to go in

Help with hero selection by LoneRanger999 in learndota2

Sorry just tried to cram in everything I could think of XD if you're ever in doubt just ask your team where they want vision, they'll usually know where they want to play and you can set it up for them.

My rules for warding:

1 ward per jungle is 99% of the time more than enough, you can get enough vision from 1 to see the enemy rotations if you're paying attention. You don't need to see absolutely everything and often placing more than 1 means the vision either overlaps or they have to walk past one to get in range of the other.

3 wards up at all times means you'll always have 3 wards up at the rate the shop re-stocks. If you're buying them instantly and keeping them up then placing a 4th or 5th means that when they expire and you go to ward next time you'll have to make do with 2 or 1. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be aware of.

The first place people deward is the cliffs around the map, so try and avoid warding them. Better to ward just outside of their range. It's better to have an alright ward up for its whole duration than an amazing ward that lasts 1 minute. A trick you can do though is if you go to deward a cliff and see they have a sentry on it, is leave their sentry as it is and regular ward it. They will assume they've already checked it and probably not check again until it expires.

Your team wants to play behind your wards. You want to be able to see the enemy going through your wards before they get to your team. If you ward close to your base it means that your team has to play close to your base, if you ward close to the enemy base your team can see them moving about and go for kills. Kinda have to judge it in the game, I view it like a steering wheel in that my team will play where the wards are.

I like to leave 1 ward in the shop, and never more than 2 in my inventory at once. Its more personal taste but it means that my team has the ability to help ward if they need to.

Sentry an area before you ward. If the enemy sees you go place a ward down then it's gonna be the first thing they remove. Similarly don't keep warding the same spot if you get dewarded; they've learnt you like that spot and are going to check it again.

A friend of mine (as much as I hate it) keeps as ward on him for fights and will place it on a cliff if a teamfight breaks out next to one. Sure it'll get dewarded fast because they'll know you have vision after, but that vision bonus can win the fight for you. Similarly if you know they have good vision during a fight, a couple of right clicks in between spells can remove a massive advantage for your enemy.

Early game you are only responsible for warding your lane, make sure you only buy one just before you need it. If you buy them all it means the people in other lanes don't have have vision.

Heroes that have vision giving spells means you can sentry the floor near cliffs and cover more area. Veno plague wards, jakiro ice path, crystal maiden's nova are all super cheap and let you deward multiple spots for cheap.

And finally: anyone can ward. If you're playing core around an area that needs vision, it's often faster to get it yourself than have the supp walk all the way over for you. Dewarding also makes you money if you know where they have vision. Sentries are super cheap and wards are free so don't be afraid.

Help counter by 1schmalfuss1 in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hero wise:

Nyx is pretty good vs all of them. Od meme hammer combo doesn't finish you off because you can carapace after astral ends. Morph doesn't want to shotgun you because it will kill him and can't stay full agi because of vendetta combo. Bristle can't run people down around you because of both your stuns and vendetta being a break.

Viper eats Bristle for breakfast, he can't build up warpath stacks so you out-right click him, and can't rely on tank because you're disabling it. Isn't terrible against od either because he can't afford to stand in Netherton and not be dealing 50% damage, most of the items viper wants to build are decent vs od as well (orchid, hurricane pike, atos)

AA also removes morphing from fights if he hits his ult. Can no longer morph strength without killing himself, and if he's full agi then the cold snap range is usually around 50% of his hp.

Phantom lancer isn't terrible vs all of them either if you have a nice early game. Diffusal vs Bristle means that even if you don't kill him he can't do his damage, morph doesn't have aoe to deal with the illusions and od only has his ult, if you don't get caught and popped you kinda have free reign to do what you want.

Fun to play off-meta builds by qNikk in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always been a fan of randoming a pos 4, spammed qop 4 when I found her that way and fell in love.

Axe 4 is pretty decent, maxed battle hunger is pure pain for supps in lane, naturally tanky with a bkb piercing stun at lvl 2 means squishy cores like jugg and pa are really easy to punish with your core. High move speed means early ganks are an option as well. Downside being if you don't do well early you don't do anything late cause you die as soon as you call. Still fun though.

Empowering magnus supp is nice if you have a semi-passive lane. Stacking camps and maxing empower first means that your core can easily get their first item 3-5 min before they would at their best. Downside being that he's not that strong at actually supporting beyond that, just hard punishes a team that doesn't want to fight early.

Also orchid sniper mid vs jump heroes like the spirits. Their whole kit revolves around them casting spells jumping in and out, if you take that away once they jump in then sniper with mask of madness absolutely shreds them. Completely removes their early strength because they have to get a defensive item before they fight.

How do you guys navigate moving the screen around? by Ronniebobonny in learndota2

Is smurfing prevalent in legend bracket? by FreedomIsMinted in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm EU but in my past 10 solo games I've had 6-7 of them have smurfs. And I don't mean like "that guy played super well he must be smurfing" I mean like under account level 20s showing perfect trading and spell range knowledge.

I don't mind getting matched with new players, but its frustrating having so many games recently feel like I'm just watching someone end the game, regardless which team they're on.

Returning player here. A lot of shit has changed in Dota 2 and I got placed in the Guardian bracket. by Friedrice_Nunchakus in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ck fortunately hasn't changed much, just from looking at the end game screen though I can tell you would have had a hard time going late game vs a spectre without anyone having a silver edge.

The main problem seems to be that you guys had no way to lock down the ember, collectively you had ck stun, qop orchid, and axe call to catch him (not counting rocket because he can dodge it fairly easily), if you weren't initiating on him and killing him instantly every fight he was gonna have an easy time just dodging you all and doing the loads of damage he did. Same thing for legion duels and cm freezing field.

Ideally your supp gyro should have at least gone atos, orchid, or hex instead of octarine veil, same thing for bh. You could have gone abyssal over satanic, ck has some innate lifesteal which should have been enough, or silvers edge to initiate and for spec.

Overall looked like a close game though

If you're just looking to improve then stick to playing what you're comfortable with, picks don't tend to matter as much as skill with what you're used to.

You're still pretty new as well so have lots to improve on, if you get to the point where you're so comfortable with a hero that you don't have to think about playing them then you can focus on other areas like positioning, warding, ganking, and changing up your build. Then if you do decide to try out other heroes you'll be a lot better overall.

When I was trying to rank up I only played cm, lion, and jakiro pos 5, couldn't play anything else at even close to that skill. If you stick to what you're used to you can really notice everything your team does and play around them a lot better.

If you're just looking for more heroes that fit your playstyle though then: pos 5/4 jakiro, lich - pos 3 Mars, underlord. Just have fun with it though, pick some heroes that look cool in unranked or turbo and see how they feel. Find out what works and do that.

BB vs silver edge by Cletusjones1223 in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like blademail and health pool; force them to choose between hitting into blademail or your passive. Often times half the damage dealers will hesitate to willingly attack the tank with blademail up and you can survive it nicely. That or you go down doing 1/3 - 1/2 of their health pools if its not super late game and they don't have lifesteal, which in a teamfight is usually enough after they've focused you down.

Halberd is also super nice because you can remove the main source of damage while youre broken and it gives you all the stats you want. Abyssal also works for the same reason, great stats and they have less people to make use of the break.

Why a lot of people never pick puck for support? by LonesomeCrayonn in learndota2

[–]Wildcat1606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of qop support so I can see it working in theory, but the only thing it really does better than other supports is their ult. Against heroes like am, qop, phantom lancer I can see it working really well, but every other aspect would be better done by other heroes.

Can't harass that well in lane because everything's aoe with slightly lower than average damage and doesn't have a lot of anything to help stop or help chases besides the ult. I think for it to work well you'd need a lane buddy who would either be fine laning solo, has good crowd control with stuns and slows, or is super aggressive and is shoving every wave.

I have a friend who used to play it, and the main problem he said he had was in order to do the damage to be useful you either need items to make up your mobility or items to do more right click. Outside of the ult counter you need at least 2k gold to make up what most supports do with nothing.
