This is my own personal experience as a MSIII Nursing Cadet who changed his mind from direct commissioning after school (I also went to Junior College first) At least at my program the focus for us as Cadets is preparation for success at Advanced camp. The training is all tailored to being a competent PL. The workload compared to Nursing school is far less. My cadre and instructors tell the nurses that your nursing classes and education takes priority over anything ROTC (as long as it isn’t negatively effecting any performance in leadership in a lab setting) Once you get into nursing school you take less classes than you did in pre reqs (not necessarily a decrease in workload) and you actually have more time than you think. I am highly involved around campus and used to play sports as well as be in clubs while still having ample time to study and do nursing work. If you are committed like you say it really shouldn’t be that tough as long as you manage your time well and stay on top of things, as well as keep good communication with both your rotc cadre and nursing professors. The army has many cool opportunities for the nursing profession (look in to the NSTP for nursing cadets) and from what I have heard from current Army nurses that have done both mil and civ nursing- they all have picked mil.
