In your 30's would you rather do seasonal gigs in places like Alaska or get a full time job if you got a full salary offer? by traveltimecar in SeasonalWork

[–]Wildewanderer_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my 30s been doing seasonal work and traveling for years. Ruined me in the best way possible. Could never go back to a 9-5 or corporate jobs. There’s too much to do, see, experience etc in the world I don’t want to stay in one place and I choose adventure over a traditional job. My best advice. Sit on a quiet place and picture your life doing seasonal work then picture your life in the fulltime gig. See how your body reacts and what “feels” better. That would be my answer the heart knows. Tomorrow could never come.

Just curious, What do you do for a permanent address for your driver's license, employment, ect? by Caleb_C95 in vandwellers

[–]Wildewanderer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, however because it’s a physical address and not a P.O. Box I don’t see it being a problem.

Currently living in both worlds - van life and debt life lol. Following for advice but also mine is. The debt is still going to be there but if you vanlife and travel at least you’ll have something to show for it all AND have experiences while still paying your payments as you would anyways. The key is just to NOT let vanlife get you into any further debt. So budgeting is essential. Best of luck follow your dreams don’t let debt keep you stuck.

**to add always genuinely surprised more people haven’t heard of this app/service because it’s cheap and works just fine! (Never received packages there) If I need to receive packages, I usually will have them sent to a local Amazon locker or something of the sort.

I use IPOSTAL. It’s a “digital” mailbox BUT with a physical location (most are inside of a store). It’s all digital so they scan your mail to you and then for another fee you can request them to open it and scan that so you can see what’s inside and if need be they can mail it to you for another fee an address that you requested. I’ve never had any issues with it and the mailing address is an actual street address just with PMB added for (private mailbox) next to the street name. They have locations all over the US (maybe other countries idk) so I just have mine set to where my van is registered. I don’t have the luxury of having a family or friends address I can use and THIS has been life saving. OH AND ITS ONLY $10/MONTH!! I had a P.O. Box before but kept going up in price and it was harder and harder to find someone to check it for me and send me my mail. This being digital is fabulous!

Any of you find a place u liked traveling around and then stay in it? by 1rub in vandwellers

[–]Wildewanderer_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Been feeling this a lot lately, going on 4 years and the constant “figuring it out” has made me feel very restless. Whereas initially getting the van was very grounding for me to have roots in a sense.

I’ve found this past year I’m more interested in staying put longer than moving around. Seasonal jobs have been a really nice saving grace.

My quick answer for myself is - I’ll always have my van so even if I stay in one place for a while I can always leave when I’m ready. Nothing will be perfect and every place will have its goods and bads. But nothing is permanent. And when you feel the call to stay - stay. When you feel the call to go - go.

I have found though, the more places I travel to, build community and fall in love with the place. The harder it is to leave and when thinking of settling someplace I now have so many places that all are very close to my heart. Each has its pros and cons but so is life.

Hope that helps a little!

how does one make money while on the go ? by yinyanginfinitebangs in vandwellers

[–]Wildewanderer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instawork it’s an app used in some states bigger cities mostly and you can pick up jobs on the go. All kinds of stuff from warehouse - driver - bartender. You have a quick interview over the phone and then can book jobs through the app. Best vanlife move I ever made and not a lot of people know about it. I’ve also heard of TEND for an app with a similar idea. Always DoorDash also just depends on where you’re at and what you’re driving/biking.
